Mahlon Rubottom, after suffering for weeks, died Sunday
morning. He leaves a widow, who has been untiring in her
efforts to care for him, and a son, George, who lives here. He
had two daughters--one at Indianapolis and one at Tuscola.

Uncle Mahlon Rubottom passed peacefully away Sunday morning
July 29. He was 80 years old and had been very feeble for
several years. About eight weeks ago he became insane and never
regained consciousness. Of course, he became a great charge for
his wife, but kind friends came to her relief and assisted in
taking care of him, for which she feels truly grateful. Uncle
Mahlon had lived in this community a number of years and was
favorably known and highly respected as a more upright, honest
Christian man would be difficult to find. Funeral services were
held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Baptist Church. Rev. T. A.
Williams of Rarpen, Illinois officiating, after which we retired
to the beautiful Silver Island Cemetery where the remains were
deposited to await the glad morning when we are told that the
angel shall stand with one foot on land and one on sea and
proclaim that time shall be no more.
