"Thomas Rubottom."

Contributed by Robin Flatt Olson, Mjflatt@aol.com

Among the many successful Iowa men who came to Box Butte county is Thomas Rubottom, who hails from Warren County of the Hawkeye state, landing here in the year 1890. Mr. Rubottom is the owner of 1,600 acres of deeded land, located 12 miles northwest of Alliance. He has more than 250 head of fine cattle and horses, and his progress in the stock raising industry has been most successful. Mr. Rubottom also possesses the thrift of the Iowa farmer, and has 35 acres of fine growing alfalfa. Last year he cultivated 40 acres of corn and 30 acres of small grain, which netted him handsome returns, also growing 1,400 bushels of excellent potatoes. While actively engaged in stock raising and farming pursuits, Mr. Rubottom has not overlooked the comforts of his family, having recently completed a fine stone residence of his country possessions. In his happy domicile resides his true and faithful wife, who he married as Miss Alice Shepherd, 25 years ago, and with this union is a healthy, light hearted group of six children, two sons and four daughters.
