298. George SISSON [scrapbook] (John , George , George , Richard ) was born 1 Dec 1753 in Swansea, Massachusetts. He died 28 Dec 1831 in Torrey, Yates Co., New York and was buried in Milo, NY.

Many sources have said that George married Hannah (Wall) Smith, but David and Joan Sisson's extensive research denies that marriage. George and Bethana moved first to Schenectady and then to New Jerusalem, Yates County, New York, in June 1789. The families lived in caves along the "Outlet," a waterway between Keuka and Seneca Lakes, when they first arrived. They finally settled on the west bank of Seneca Lake near what is now Penn Yan. They settled there with 25 other people and planted 12 acres of wheat. George held lot number 16 in the Parker, Potter and Hathaway patent in New York. He was a member and trustee of the company of "the Universal Friend," Jemima Wilkinson. For more information, see "The History of Yates County, NY," by L. C. Aldrich (1892).

From "Vital Records of Swansea, Massachusetts to 1850," p. 74: "George Sisson the Son of John Sisson and Mary his wife was born December the 1:1753." From p. 246: "George Sisson Juner of Worrin and Bethany Luther of Swanzey were Joined in the Covenant of Marriage on the 10 day of June 1781 by me David Peirce Justice of Peace." (Note: in those days, "Jr." might be used if George was the younger of two George Sissons in the area, not necessarily father and son.)

George has been listed as a sergeant in Captain Robert Earl's Dartmouth Company in the Revolutionary War, but this was the wrong George. The military service marker on his grave is incorrect. The George who served in Captain Earl's company is more likely George (Constant, John, George, Richard) who married Rhoda Sherman.

George married Bethana LUTHER [scrapbook], daughter of Jonathan LUTHER and Elizabeth Bourne BOWEN, on 10 Jun 1781 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Bethana was born 23 Sep 1759 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. She died 8 Aug 1811 in Torrey, Yates Co., New York and was buried in City Hill Cemetery, Dresden, Yates Co., New York.

Bethany is listed in "Vital Records of Swansea, Massachusetts to 1850," p. 44: "Bewthany the Daughter of Jonathan Luther and Elizabeth his wife was born September the 23:1759". Bethany's headstone reads "In Memory of Bethana Sisson who died August 16th, 1812 in the 52nd year of her age." However, the "1812" is squeezed into the writing area. Bethany's newspaper obituary appeared in the August 21, 1811, issue of the Geneva Gazette:

In Benton, the 8th inst., Mrs. SISSON, consort of Mr. George Sisson, in the 53rd year of her age, after a long illness, which he bore with Christian fortitude.

John married Susan. Susan was born 1775.

302. Esek SISSON [scrapbook] (John , George , George , Richard ) was born 11 Aug 1762 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. He died 24 Mar 1832 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island.

Esek Sisson was living in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts, when he married Sabra. They were married by Elder Russell Mason of a Church of Christ in Swansea. He was on the role of Col. Elliot's Regiment at the age of 14 in 1776 in Warren, Rhode Island. Maureen Horton has a family Bible for Esek's family.

Esek married Sabra LUTHER "Sebrey", daughter of Harlow LUTHER and Rachel Cole SALISBURY, on 30 Jun 1790 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Sebrey was born 4 Oct 1767 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. She died 10 Apr 1854.

Her name has been reported as Sabra, Sebra, and Sebrey.

303. Jane SISSON (John , George , George , Richard ) was born 27 Sep 1764 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. She died 20 Mar 1842 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.

The dates of Jane's supposed daughters Keziah and Lucinda are problematic. Jane would have been 57 and 59 years old at the time of their births.

Jane married Aaron LUTHER on 27 Sep 1790 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Aaron was born 29 Nov 1762. He died 24 Mar 1846 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.

304. Gardiner SISSON (John , George , George , Richard ) was born 7 Mar 1767 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. He died 8 Aug 1849 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island.

Gardiner married (1) Esther WOODMANSEE on 4 Jun 1790 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Esther was born about 1771 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. She died about 1796 in Warren, Newport Co., Rhode Island.

Gardiner also married (2) Charlotte Almy SISSON, daughter of James SISSON and Sarah MASON, in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Charlotte was born 1 May 1785 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. She died 11 Apr 1868.

308. Gideon LUTHER (Mercy Cole SISSON , George , George , Richard ) was born 26 May 1756 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. He died 22 Oct 1841 in Ballston Spa, Saratoga Co., New York.

Gideon married (1) Olive FOWLER on 24 May 1782 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. Olive was born about 1756 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. She died Sep 1785 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island.

Gideon also married (2) Mary JOLLS in 1786 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. Mary was born about 1770. She died 29 Oct 1841 in Ballston Spa, Saratoga Co., New York.

310. Amos LUTHER (Mercy Cole SISSON , George , George , Richard ) was born 19 Apr 1761 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. He died about 1800.

Amos married Elizabeth Maxwell MAXFIELD on 15 May 1785 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. Elizabeth was born about 1761.

314. Susanna Cook SISSON (Gilbert , George , George , Richard ) was born 27 Oct 1757.

Susanna married Ezekiel LUTHER, son of Levi LUTHER and Sarah, on 1 Nov 1784. Ezekiel was born about 1756.

Ezekiel and Susanna were Quakers and farmers. They are mentioned in the will of Susannah C. Luther dated 1839. They are probably buried is Fairfield, New York.

315. Isaac SISSON (Gilbert , George , George , Richard ) was born 21 Jan 1759 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.

Isaac married (1) Esther Theophilus LUTHER, daughter of Theophilus LUTHER and Esther COLE, on 19 Oct 1783 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. Esther was born 4 Jul 1763 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts.

Isaac also married (2) Martha LUTHER, daughter of Theophilus LUTHER and Martha BUFFINGTON. Martha was born 24 Apr 1783 in Swansea, Bristol Co., Massachusetts. She died 1 Nov 1863.

316. Mary SISSON (Gilbert , George , George , Richard ) was born 29 May 1765. She died 3 Apr 1841.

Mary married Ezra LUTHER, son of Thomas LUTHER and Mary LITTLE, on 29 Oct 1786. Ezra was born 21 Oct 1756 in Swansea. He died before 1841 in Warren, Masssachusetts.

Ezra was a mariner and listed November 10, 1780 on the ship "G. Pickering." He was captured by the British on his way to the West Indies. His will was dated March 7, 1780 in Swansea.

317. Austress SISSON (Gideon , George , George , Richard ) was born 11 May 1765 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island. She died 6 May 1823.

Austress married Jonathan BUSHEE in 1787 in Barrington, Providence Co., Rhode Island. Jonathan was born about 1760.

318. Freeborn SISSON (Gideon , George , George , Richard ) was born 16 Jun 1767 in Warren, Bristol Co., Rhode Island.
