348. Thomas SISSON [scrapbook] (William , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born 4 Apr 1758 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. He died 2 Oct 1841 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island.

Thomas Sisson was a private from Rhode Island for 18 months in the Revolutionary War and was pensioned in 1833. He is listed in the DAR Patroit Index. He inherited land from his father. From the Sisson Newsletter, v 8 #4 p 17, "In Vol VIII, No. 3, we asked about the Sisson who may have established the Sisson Drug Company in Hartford, CT. We propose that Thomas (1758), Vol II, No. 3, could have established this company since he lived in Hartford and his grandson Thomas (1828) Vol. VIII, No. 3, was a druggist there. From "Westerly and its Witnesses", Capt. Thomas Sisson, Esq. died Oct. 2, 1841, in his 84th year (p. 297), and was buried in the Sisson Ground #1 in Westerly. "This lies about twenty-five rods west of the cross road between the post road and Dorrville, about twenty five rods northwest from the residence of Mr. Libbeus Sisson."

Thomas and his wife Abigail are buried inside an enclosure in the Sisson Ground #1. Outside the enclosure, in the same burial ground, are buried Joseph Sisson and his wife; Sanford Sisson and his wife Elizabeth, John Sisson and his wife Keturah.

Thomas married Abigail COTTRELL, daughter of John COTTRELL and Lois BOARDMAN, on 19 Jan 1783 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. Abigail was born 1761 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island. She died 13 Apr 1831 in Westerly, Washington Co., Rhode Island and was buried in Sisson Ground #1, Westerly, Rhode Island.

From Mary Jo Sisson March : "Sanford Sisson and his wife Elizabeth Chapman were listed by Rev. Frederic Denison in his "Westerly and Its Witnesses" as being buried in Sisson Ground #1. This cemetery is now Historical #25, Town of Westerly, and is in a deplorable state. But Sanford and his wife were evidently exhumed from this site, for their burial is in Oakgrove Cemetery, Ashaway (town of Hopkinton), Rhode Island Historical #18. Their inscriptions read: Sanford Sisson died Oct 5, 1857, aged 85 years. His wife Elizabeth Chapman died March 15, 1862, aged 85 years."
