5631. Julius Sylvanus SISSON "Van" (Wilson Crandall , Daniel Higby , John , John , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born 17 Nov 1855 in Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa. He died 10 Apr 1931.

From newspaper obituaries of Julius Sylvanus Sisson:
"The community was again saddened when the news of the death of Mr. J. S. Sisson came Friday, following that of his wife which had occurred three days before.

Both of these elderly people had been taken ill with flu and Mr. Sisson, not realizing that both were seriously ill, had been caring for Mr.s Sisson for more than a week, when both were taken to the hospital.

He left Iowa with his parents when eleven years old, in a covered wagon for Kansas, and grew to manhood there on his father's farm. Early in life he had a desire for an education and after finishing the grade school and high school, he went to Baker University and secured a job as janitor of that institution, working his way through school.

Mr. Sisson had learned the barber trade and worked at that trade nine years in Cameron and Maysville and part time with his brother Lee."

"He was united in marriage January 8, 1879 to Miss Alice Trim. The wedding occurred at Ottawa, Kansas and it is said that Mr. Sisson walked seven miles through the deep snows to claim his bride.

For a good while he was in the barber business in Maysville, but retired from that business a good many years ago and in the later years had devoted a large part of his time to operating a fruit farm at the northern edge of Maysville."

Van married Alice Viola TRIM, daughter of Alvin TRIM and Mary Elizabeth GOWAN, on 8 Jan 1879 in Ottawa, Franklin Co., Kansas. Alice was born 8 Jan 1861 in Baldwin, Kansas. She died 7 Apr 1931 in St Joseph, Missouri and was buried in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Julius Sylvanus Sisson was known as "Van." Both he and his wife Alice Trim attended Baker University in Baldwin, Osage County, Kansas. They lived in Baldwin and Maysville, Missouri. Both died of double penumonia. They were survived by "her brother Frank Trim and sister Fanny Sisson of Kansas City." Source: their obituaries.

5633. Thomas Eddy SISSON (Wilson Crandall , Daniel Higby , John , John , Giles , Thomas , George , Richard ) was born 22 Jul 1861 in near Ioka, Keokuk Co., IA. He died 1936.

Thomas enrolled in Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas, in the fall of 1876 at the age of 16 and studied the field of theology. He was also very interested in geology. He worked part time and graduated in the spring of 1884. After graduation, he was recommended by the Baldwin Methodist Quarterly Conference for admission to the Kansas Conference. His first churches in Kansas were in Pomona, Quenemo, and the Davies school house, in 1884 and 1885. He later served churches in Winnemucca, Nevada; Bishop, California; Mason Valley, Nevada; Truckee, California (1890); Genoa, Nevada (1891-2); Dunsmuir, California; Denver, Colorado; Castle Rock, Colorado (1894); Grand Junction, Colorado (1896); Cripple Creek, Colorado; Edwardsville, Illinois (1902); and Tulsa, Oklahoma (1910 census). Thomas was appointed by the Chautauqua Board of New York to establish the Chautauqua Assemblies on the Pacific Coast.
