David and Joan Sisson believe that John and Elizabeth's children were probably born in this order: Joseph (named for his father), Job (named for her father), John Jr (named for his father), as was the custom.

John's will was made in 1777. It mentions only three sons John, Joseph, and Job.

John married Elizabeth BRIGGS on 27 Jun 1757. Elizabeth was born 18 Nov 1735. She died before 1810 in Albany Co., New York.

Joseph was a tenant farmer in Portsmouth and Middletown, Rhode Island. He probably died in Middletown, Rhode Island. This Joseph Sisson has been wrongly confused with the Joseph 5 Sisson who married Ruth Shrieve, and whose line is Richard, John, John Jr., John III, Joseph.

Joseph married Mary SHEARMAN, daughter of Thomas SHEARMAN and Mary B. SANFORD, on 19 Aug 1762 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Mary was born 3 Jan 1739/1740. She died after 1787.

From Jeff Day : "Jabez is buried in the DAY family plot in the Pepacton Cemetery in Delaware County, NY. Originally, Jabez, Pamela and John were buried in the Cannonsville Cemetery but the city of NY reinterred their bodies in 1965 to make way for their wonderful reservoir. I visited their grave sites this past August [1999]. I do have updated list and .ged files on Jabez and his DAY decendants if anyone is interested."

411. George SISSON Jr. [scrapbook] (George , James , George , Richard ) was born 4 Nov 1750 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. He died 25 Dec 1840 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island.

George Sisson Jr and his wife Anna and their children Preserved, Elizabeth, Anna Sherman, and Ruth Potter are all buried in the Sisson Lot on Sea Meadow Drive in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. This is on the east side of East Main Road just opposite Quaker Hill, about 1 1/2 miles north of Mintwater Brook Farm (the home of Richard (1) and Mary Sisson in Portsmouth [though they also lived at times in Westport, Plymouth Colony]), on land that seems to have passed from Richard (1) to his son George and to George's son James. George's earmark "hind gad on left ear" originally was assigned to Peleg Sherman in 1748 and was transferred to George May 12, 1808. Source: "Early Records of the Town of Portsmouth" pages 321 and 370. George is buried in the Sisson Lot, Sea Meadow Drive, Portsmouth, RI, a half mile east of East Main Road.

George married Anna SHERMAN, daughter of Preserved SHERMAN and Ann LAWTON, on 25 Feb 1773 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. Anna was born 9 Nov 1752 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. She died 27 Apr 1849 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island.

Ruth Sisson Potter and her sister Elizabeth sold land to Thomas Holman. Copies of the papers are accessible in the "Scrapbook" section of this entry.

Ruth married (1) Abner DAVIS on 9 Dec 1829. Abner was born about 1790 in Fair Haven.

Ruth also married (2) Philip POTTER. Philip was born about 1788.

425. Ruth TRIPP (Isaac TRIPP , Job TRIPP , Anne SISSON , Richard ) was born 21 Mar 1735/1736 in Warwick, Kent Co., Rhode Island. She died 6 May 1807 in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania.

Ruth Tripp and her husband Jonathan Slocum resided in Warwick, Rhode Island after their marriage. He was a blacksmith. They accompanied or followed Ruth's father Isaac Tripp to the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania soon after 1768. In 1771 Jonathan took up land in what is now probably Scranton, Pennsylvania. In 1774 they were back in Rhode Island where the census shows them with a household of 14 persons, including two Negro servants and two Indians. They probably returned to Wyoming with the entire family late in 1774. Jonathan received a deed of land in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on 6 November 1775. By 1777 he had purchased land in Old Township of Putnam, now Tonkhannack, Wyoming County. On 2 November 1778 Indians seized his five year old daughter Frances and carried her into lifelong captivity. As a member of the Society of Friends he had befriended the Indians, but his son Giles had been recognized at the battle 3 July 1778. On 16 December 1778 Jonathan was shot and scalped by the Indians while feeding cattle within sight of the Fort of Wilkes Barre. Ruth was an eye-witness to both Indian attacks - the kidnapping of her daughter and the scalping of her husband and father.

Ruth married Jonathan SLOCUM, son of Joseph SLOCUM and Patience CARR, on 23 Feb 1757 in Warwick, Kent Co., Rhode Island. Jonathan was born 1 May 1733 in East Greenwich, Kent Co., Rhode Island. He died 16 Dec 1778 in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania.
