The Belmond Independent, Belmond, Wright, IA, Thurs, May 17, 1956, Pg 5, Col 5: Final Rites Held For Mabel Probst
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational church for Mrs. Mabel Probst, 69, who died suddenly Saturday morning of a heart attack at the home of her daughter, Sarah Probst. Rev. William Schorman officiated over the rites and Johnston Funeral Home was in charge. Burial was in the cemetery at Galt.
Pallbearers were Arnold Mennenga, Peter Bohning, Henry Larsen, Lloyd Lewis, Emory Thompson and Charles Norris.
Lucy Mabel Sisson was born at Shellsburg on Feb 5, 1877 (it was 1887), daughter of Charles and Katherine Sisson. At the age of 18 she moved to Wright county, living first south of Clarion and later assisting her brother George in operation of a hotel at Galt.
She was married on Nov. 24, 1908 (it was the 25th), to John Probst of Galt. Following his death on Nov. 17, 1926, she moved to Belmond and had made her home here since that time. Mrs. Probst was a member of the Galt Congregational church, transferring her membership to the church of the same denomination here on moving to Belmond. She was a faithful member of the church's adult Bible class and Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Rebekah lodge.
Surviving are the three children born to her and Mr. Probst and a step-daughter: (in that order) Sarah Probst of Belmond, Mrs. Robert (Grace) Lobdell of Ottumwa and Charles of Radmor, Pa.; and Mrs. Norris (Genevieve) Odland of Clarion. She also leaves 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and two brothers, George Sisson of Pine Bluff, Wyo., and Ray of Springfield, Mo.

From newspaper clipping sent to me by Calvin Sisson.
"John Adolph Probst was born on January 23, 1875, at Clinton, Iowa, this being his home until he grew to manhood. Coming with his parents to Wright county in the year 1895. On March 23, 1904, he was united in marriage to Martha Hildahl and to this union one child was born. Mrs. Jeneve Odland of Clarion. His wife, Martha, passed away on September 22, 1906. He was united in marriage on November 25, 1908 to Mable Sisson and to this union three children were born, Sarah A., Grayce L., and Chas. E. Probst, all at home. He also leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Probst of Galt; his wife; four children; one brother, and four sisters, and other relatives and a host of friends. Mr. Probst had lived in Wright county for over thirty years, the last eighteen of which he has carried the mail on the rural route from Galt, missing only a few days during that length of time until his recent illness came upon him. One winter day he could not get through to some of the mail boxes, so he walked through the snow in order that the people might receive their mail, which shows his faithfulness to the work he had in hand. He was active up until the last two months when he was afflicted with his serious illness, which resulted in his passing away, November 17, 1926, at the age of 51 years, 9 months, and 25 days. He was a man among men, highly esteemed by all. His home and family were his pride and joy. A faithful husband and companion, a loving father and good neighbor. Galt and community has lost a good citizen. He was very active in the order of Odd Fellows of which he has been a member the last 21 years. The funeral was held at the Congregational church in Galt, on November 19, 1926. Rev. G. T. Farnham officiating with the local I. O. O. F. lodge assisting."
Newspaper clipping The Wright County Monitor, Clarion, IA, Wed Dec 2, 1908, Pg 8, Col2.
"It is a pleasure this week to chronicle the marriage of two of our worthy young people, Mr. John Probst and Miss (Lucy) Mabel Sisson. They were married at Clairon Wednesday by; Rev. Spence of the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Sisson, father and mother of the bride, accompanied the young people to Clairon. Soon after the ceremony the bridal couple departed for Grand Meadow, Minn., to spend Thanksgiving with the groom's parents and other relatives. They returned Tuesday and will soon be at home to their many friends in the rooms over the bank. A host of friends join with us in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Probst a long, happy and prosperous wedded life."
