Daniel was a master mariner, commander of the Schooner "Southerner." His death record shows his father's name as Burt____, Both Daniel and Charlotte are buried in the Rural Cemetery, New Bedford.

Daniel married Charlotte BEAL, daughter of Joseph BEAL and Sarah, about 1823 in Stone Church, Adamsville, Rhode Island. Charlotte was born 2 Jul 1802 in Tiverton, Rhode Island. She died 20 Dec 1875.

"Deserted from the galley Spitfire, Joseph Crandall, commander, Thomas  
Austin, a stout young man, about 24 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches high,  and has short light coloured hair: Had on when he went away a light coloured thick jacket, and a pair of long white trowsers. Also Sampson Sims, a stout young fellow 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, and has light coloured hair. Had on when he went away, a thick green jacket, and a pair of leather breeches. Also, William Clarke, 24 years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, has long reddish hair, and is a well set fresh looking man: Had on when he went away, a short blue Jacket, and white breeches. Also, Preserved Sisson, 18 years  of age, about 5 feet high, and has long light coloured hair: Had on when he went  away, a blue jacket, and long white trowsers.Whoever will take up said deserters, and secure them in any gaol in the United States, or return them to  the subscriber, shall receive Five Dollars reward for each, and all necessary  charges, paid by

Preserved was captain of a merchant vessel called the Alert. Some of the adventures on the Alert were recorded by a passenger, Augustin Dominique Tureaud. The Alert was harassed by a British privateer in 1801 during a time period when Britain, France, and Spain were harassing each other on the seas. This manuscript is in the Western Americana Collection in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University.

Preserved Sisson is probably the Captain Sisson referred to in a narrative by Theobald Wolfe Tone (see http://free.freespeech.org/republicansf/1798/tone_ndx.htm) about a voyage from America to France in 1796.

It has been reported that John Sisson V married Abigail Cook, daughter of Job Cook, but she married John Sisson, son of John and Elizabeth (Briggs) Sisson.

1310. Matthew SISSON (John , John , John , John , Richard ) was born 23 Sep 1773 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island.

According to his niece Celia Jane Sisson's autobiography, Matthew Sisson moved to Seneca Falls, New York. Previously he had been a farmer on the Muller Hill property, Georgetown, NY, near Hamilton, NY.

A biography of Matthew's grandson, P. Frank Sisson, in the book "Initial Ithicans comprising sketches and portraits of the forty-four presidents of the village of Ithaca" (1904) states that Matthew was a sea captain and moved from Rhode Island to Danby, six miles south of Ithica, and became a farmer.

1311. Pardon SISSON (John , John , John , John , Richard ) was born 23 Sep 1775 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. He died 28 Nov 1866 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island and was buried in Sisson farm, Sisson Pond Rd., Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

Pardon was a sea captain. He is buried in the Sisson-Carr Lot, Sisson Pond Road, Portsmouth, RI. Also buried there are Pardon's wife, their children, a son-in-law, and a grandchild, and a person named John Abbott (1688-1718).

Pardon owned property between 1823 and 1828 in Belchertown, Massachusetts (from _Division Line of Fence between Willson & Sisson_, in arcives at Stone House Museum, Melchertown, MA, dated August 5, 1828).

Pardon married Mary Polly SLOCUM, daughter of John SLOCUM and Phebe DURFEE, on 26 Nov 1797 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. Mary was born 20 Feb 1778 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island. She died 7 Jul 1864 in Portsmouth, Newport Co., Rhode Island and was buried in Sisson farm, Sisson Pond Rd., Portsmouth, Rhode Island.

There is a Benjamin F. Sisson who lived in West Greenwich, Rhode Island and enrolled Aug 12, 1862, and was mustered Sep 6, 1862, into Company E, Seventh Regiment of Rhode Island Volunteers (according to William P. Hopkins' "Seventh Regiment of Rhode Island Volunteers in the Civil War, 1862-1865" (Providence, RI: Snow & Farnham Printers, 1903), pages 478). That Benjamin was wounded at Spotssylvania 12 May 1864. Is this the right Benjamin?
