David SISSON was born 22 Jul 1846 in Little Compton, Newport Co., Rhode Island. He died 27 Jun 1870 in East Greenwich, Kent Co., Rhode Island.
David Sisson "removed with his father to East Greenwich in this State, at the age of five years, and was educated in the Seminary of that town. Possessed of an excellent education, a remarkably active temperament, indomitable perseverance and energy, and gave promise of much usefulness, justifying by his acts the fondest anticipations of his widowed mother. At an early age it was evident that he was inclined to consumption. He traveled quite extensively West, hoping that by engaging in business pursuits there, his health might be improved. But soon the hereitary disease warned him that his work was done, and if he would see his home and friends again, all his remaining strength and energy would be required for the journey. He traveled from the State of Kansas alone, barely able to sit up, and arrived home in January last, a complete skeleton, entirely prostrated, to die, (as he told the writer only a few days before his death). He found he could not live, he was certain of it, and he made his way home that he might look upon his friends, and die among them. It was all he asked. Fearless and brave must he have been, who could have thus cheerfully and calmly prepare to die. His was a heart and mind which could meet death with resignation, fearlessly and bravely. The writer knew the deceased intimately well, and is prepared to give facts concerning him, which it is a satisfaction to attest to at this time."
