The 1910 Portsmouth, RI, census shows Frances as the wife of George W. Gaulkner who was born about 1839. It also shows that this was her second and his third marriage, that they had been married for 15 years, and that Frances had one child.

The Howard family history shows that Elisha Chase/Chace was a New England sea captain. Thurza and Elisha moved to Missouri on a wagon train, and THurza died en route and was buried along the trail.

Elisha married Thurza/Thyrza HOWARD, daughter of William HOWARD and Agnes. Thurza/Thyrza was born 6 Nov 1803 in Ocracoke Island, NC.

Thurza's father William was the son of George Howard and grandson of William Howard, Sr., owner of Ocracoke Island in 1759, and possibly the same William Howard who served as quartermaster to Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard the pirate) who was killed in a naval battle at Ocracoke Inlet on November 22, 1718. William Howard the pirate was not with Blackbeard when he was killed.

The Howard family still lives on Ocracoke Island (from Philip Howard).
