On was in the Battle of Monocacy Junction, Maryland on 9 Jul 1864, and in a skirmish at Berryville, West Virginia. At Berryville, his entire company, except for four men, were captured by the Confederates. He and three others succeeded in escaping, and were pursued under fire for some time. The others were exchanged a short time later. At the end of his service, he was given an Honorable Discharge at Camp Dennison, Ohio. Between September 1864 and February 1882 Wilson was a farmer in Clinton County, Ohio. Upon discharge from the Civil War, he returned to farming. He a charter member of the Ohio Farmers' Mutual Benefit Association lodge before February 1882 in Clinton County, Ohio. He lived in Sycamore, Howard County, Indiana after 1 March 1882.
