Sarah Katherine Fravel was born on 28 July 1857 in Knox County, Ohio. She lived in Ohio before March 1864. She lived in Rochester, Kingman County, Kansas from March 1864 to 1884. Sarah owned a 160 acre land grant after March 1864 in Rochester, Kingman County, Kansas. She lived in Rochester, Kingman County, Kansas between March 1884 and August 1904. In 1884, with their eldest son, they left Ohio and went to Rochester, Kansas to live. On their arrival, they entered 160 acres of government land, living on it for approximately twenty years. During these years, they went through the privations of pioneers, with droughts, swarms of grasshoppers stripping away everything that was green, prairie fires, and Indian scares. She lived in Sterling, Rice County, Kansas between August 1904 and 4 February 1934. In August 1904 William and Esther moved with their family to Sterling, Kansas, in order that their children might have better advantages in school, and to attend the church of their choice. They moved to a farm that eventually included 240 acres and Katherine lived there until her death, except for the five years which they spent in the City of Sterling.
