He originated the name "Wooster Generals," the blue and gold colors, and the "General" logo still used by Wooster High School in 1986. During this period he also started the summer recreational program for the City of Wooster. In 1944 he was a starting a second career with the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio. While there, he continued with athletics by organizing Wooster's Hot Stove League Chapter in 1949 and became it's first president. Later, he became president of the Ohio Hot Stove League and served on the Board of the National Hot Stove League. In recognition of his outstanding service to the youth in Hot Stove League, he received the Cy Butler Memorial Award. Robert was a long time member at First Presbyterian Church in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio. As Moderator (chairman) of the Wooster Presbytery, as the first layman to become Moderator of the United Presbyterian Synod of Ohio, and as President of the Ohio Synod's Council of United Presbyterian Men in 1960, he was instrumental in the acquisition and development of the Presbyterian recreational camp/retreat at Pleasant Hill Lake near Perrysville and Loudonville, Ohio. He was a President and Member of the Board of Directors at Apple Creek Banking Company in Apple Creek, Wayne County, Ohio. He was a member of the Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, and Masonic Lodge. Robert inducted into the County Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 in Wayne County, Ohio. He died on 25 January 1986 at the age of 81 in Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio. He was buried after 25 January 1986 in Wooster Cemetery, Wooster, Wayne County, Ohio. He is buried beside his wife.
