He received a Agricultural Education (BS) degree in 1942 in University of Nevada. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Sigma fraternity. He served in the military during World War II in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He was assigned as a Communications Officer on the "USS 1023," whose mission was to search for German submarines off the East Coast of the United States. After 1946 Marvin was a teacher, principal and coach in Eli, Cherry County, Nebraska. After 1947 he was an Agriculture Instructor in Fort Morgan, Morgan County, Colorado. When not teaching, he enjoyed refereeing football and basketball. He received a an unknown major (MS) degree after 1948 in Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado. In 1953 Marvin was an Assistant Supervisor for vocational Agricultural Education for the State Board of Education in Denver, Denver County, Colorado. He was advanced to Supervisor two years later. She was buried about February 1929 in City View Cemetery, Salem, Marion County, Oregon. She was described as a very pretty girl, with auburn colored curly hair, very fair skin, and blue eyes.. She was tall and slender when she was a girl, while in later life she became heavier, weighing as much as 175 pounds. Molly was always active in church work, and had taught Sunday School classes in nearly every town where she lived, and was superintendent of a Sunday School for a number of years in Salem, Oregon. She raised her children as she had been raised, to go to church and Sunday School. When horses were no longer used in farming, he continued with the shoe repair and also made canvases for binders and combines. Melvin died on 1 February 1958 in Minot, Ward County, North Dakota. Between 1942 and 1970 he was a Field Director of the Junior Baseball Program for the City Department of Parks & Recreation in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. He did this during the summers when he was not teaching. He received a 25 year service award from the City of Indianapolis in 1967 during an Indianapolis Indians game at Bush Stadium. Ray was member of the University Heights Evangelical United Bretheren Church before 1961 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. He was Baptist about 1971 in Southport Baptist Church, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Ray was an active member here as a teacher, deacon, and board member until his death. He died on 8 February 1979 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. He died at Community Hospital during surgery for a ruptured aorta. Ray was buried on 15 February 1979 in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greenwood, Johnson County, Indiana. The cemetery is located on State Route 135 South. Ray was "a stout Christian man" who lived his faith. He adhered to principles of honesty, truth and integrity. He was relaxed and easy going, except for a quick temper when pushed over his limit. He had a great love for his wife and children.
