After 1947 Robert was an owner of his own excavating business. In 1962 he was involved in an excavation accident, where a tree fell across his bulldozer and held him, as the dozer kept moving. He suffered multiple injuries, both legs pulled from the sockets, and several broken ribs. He died on 28 October 1986 at the age of 63 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He died of a heart attack at the Veterans Hospital in Cleveland. Have also located his place of death stated as Nevada, Wyandot County, Ohio. Parents: Homer Markley and Winona Grace Larick.
