Commerce Department in Washington, D. C.. In 1941 he was a supervisor in Quality Control at Allison of General Motors in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. Bruce lived in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana in 1941. He served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts, president and player-agent in Little League, president of the babe Ruth League, and had a Sunday school orchestra at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, where he also taught Sunday school. He ran twice for Indianapolis School Board on the Better Schools Committee ticket and belonged to the Southport, Indiana Masonic Lodge and Commandry.

While living in Arkansas, Bruce was president of the Hot Springs Geological Society, president of the Southern Artists Association, and on the board of the Fine Arts Center in Hot Springs. He was also on the board of the Village Methodist Church and sang in the choir. He belonged to the Men's Chorus, Village Camera Club, and Village Players for which he directed three plays and acted in many others. He was regional vice president of the American Iris Society of Arkansas and Oklahoma, and was an Iris judge. He was chairman of the Social and Cultural Committee of P. O. A. and had belonged to and played in the Village Orchestra for six years.
