She appeared in the census on 1 June 1860 at the Clinton County Infirmary in Union Township, Clinton County, Ohio. She is shown in her census entry in the infirmary as a pauper and unable to read or write. She lived with her four youngest children at the Clinton County Infirmary in Union Township, Clinton County, Ohio on 1 June 1860. Lavina lived in Fairview, Highland County, Ohio in 1860. She receiving her husband's Civil War pension between 31 July 1864 and 3 May 1899. Initially, her pension was $8 per month for herself, plus $2 for each child under age 16, for a total of $12. She lived in Russells Station, Highland County, Ohio on 31 March 1865. Lavina lived in Russells Station, Highland County, Ohio on 11 September 1866. She appeared in the census in 1870 in Union Township, Highland County, Ohio. Cause of death is stated as pneumonia. Her surname was found on her son's death certificate as Reid, but is shown virtually everywhere else as Reeder. Her given name has also been found as Melvinia, Melinda and Lavinia, but Lavina is the most common spelling found and thought to be correct. Parents: Reeder.
