Their movement from North to South Carolina was probably due to the end of the Revolutionary War. North Carolina was no different than many other areas in the newly won country, and its residents included British Loyalists as well as rebels. Conrad, John and Jacob Hackleman (friends of the Blades family, or possibly relatives) were charged with Loyalist activities. Luke was never mentioned in any list so his sympathies can only remain as speculation. Either way, South Carolina had land for the taking to all and a new start to life for some. Another migration, at least for Catherine and family, came in 1805-06, when the Blades family joined several other Abbeville County residents in moving to the newly-opened Indiana Territory. It is unclear if husband Luke made the journey as no definitive record for him is found after the 1800 Federal Census. This leads some to speculate that he may have stayed behind in Abbeville County, died in Kentucky enroute, or perhaps died soon after arriving in Indiana Territory. Catherine, however, is different story and is found in several Indiana records. Children were: Rev.
