OBITUARY OF MRS. DAVID KINGERY
(Elizabeth Deardorff Kingery)
[4113]
This estimable old pioneer lady expired quite suddenly at her home south of Avery, (Iowa), on last Monday ( Jan 27, 1896) about noon. Funeral occurred on Wednesday afternoon, when the remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Corners Cemetary (Albia,
Iowa). The funeral discourse was preached by John Stamy of Robins, Iowa.
Mrs. Kingery was born in Virginia, March 11, 1810. When about seven years old she moved with her parents, John and Catherine (Harshbarger) Deardorff, to Highland County, Ohio, where they lived aboout two years, then they moved to Union County,
Indiana, where she grew to womanhood. On September 20, 1832, she was united in marriage to David Kingery. To this union was born nine children, all living but one son, Christian, who died three years ago last Dec 2. Following is the names and places
of residence to the children who survive: Samuel Kingery, Rocky Ford, Colorado; John M. and David Kingery, Mt. Etna, Iowa; Henry Kingery of near Moravia, Iowa; Mrs. Barbara Epperly, Artesia, California; Mrs. Sarah Paddock, Cambridge City, Indiana;
Mrs. Catherine Replogle, Farragut, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Zink, Mt. Etna, Iowa. There are 62 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
For nearly 64 years they journeyed together over life's pathway. They were members of the old German Baptist Church. In this decease the neighborhood has lost a good neighbor, one who was always ready and willing to do all that anyone could. The
children have lost a noble and kindhearted mother; the husband has lost a dear companion, one he could always trust and rely on.
[4114]
Dearest Mother, thou hast left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel.
But 'tis God who hast bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.
[4115]
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the tear of life is fled.
And in Heaven with joy to meet thee
When no farewell tear is shed.
