Generation
No. 3
6. ELLINORE3 DAILEY (SILAS2, SILAS1 DAILY) was born March 22, 1833 in Dutch Co., New York, and
died July 23, 1895 in Crawford Co. Ill.. She married HARRIS GANNON
November 06, 1853 in Jennings Co., Indiana, son of THOMAS GANNON and MARY Ann RUNYON. He was
born Abt. April 02, 1833 in Jennings Co., Ind., and died January 21, 1879 in Morea,
Crawford Co., Ill..
Notes for ELLINORE DAILEY:
Ellinore is buried just to the right as you first come into the Palestine cemetary, just a
short distance past her daughter Elnora Cravens. Silas and Deborah Dailey are buried near
the very back of the cemetary, next to Ellinore's husband, Harris Gannon. My great-aunt
Pearl Fitts once told me that that area of the cemetary used to flood before a dike or
something was built, so that's probably why Ellinore wasn't buried back there. Her
gravestone proudly proclaims "Wife of Harris Gannon."
Silas is Ellinore's father but I have doubts about Deborah as Ellinore's mother, tho I
beieve she is the mother of Ellinore's younger siblings. Their gravestones indicate:
Deborah (wife of Silas) died Nov. 8, 1868-age 55 y, 9m, 13d (born abt Jan 1813) Silas
Dailey- died April 15, 1892-age 82y, 8m (born abt August 1809)
Silas (Ellinore's father) and his brother Sylvester came to Jennings Co., IN after
Ellinore was born. I had originally thought that the Gannon's and Dailey's met after they
came to Indiana, but have since discovered that BOTH families were from New York, and
almost PROOF POSITIVE Stueben Co. NY, in and around the small towns called Wayne, and
Tyrone. Silas Dailey (grandfather to Ellinore) was living in Wayne in 1818 when he applied
for his revolutionary pension and inTyrone when he died in 1841. His son Sylvester was
living in Tyrone in 1835. In 1830 an Abraham Gannon was living in Wayne, and two Thomas
Gannon's were living in Tyrone. Francis Runyan was there ans so, I believe, were his
in-laws the Harris's's. I have a lot more circumstantial proof, but you get the
idea.
Harris' Gannons death cert. implies coming to Crawford Co. abt 1867, which fits with
Harris and Ellinore, along with Ellinore's parents and siblings, 'disappearing' from
Jennings Co about then. They almost certainly all came to Crawford Co, ILL together.
Elinorre was a fairly wealthy, at least very comfortable, woman at her time of herdeath in
1895. Her notes and accounts (people that owed her money) when she died were very
extensive, and the value of her estate was estimated at $11,000. I would imagine that she
had a business of some sort, begun after Harris died, but what? She owned lots ninety-one
and ninety two in 'the original town now village of Palestine'. She willed the 'farm that
I now reside on in the town of Montgomery' to her son Harlan., one hundred dollars to her
daughter Mary Ann Peden, $6000. to her daughter Ella May (who predeceased Ellinore by one
day), and to Orris, Mead S. and Elnora Cravens the remainder to be divided equally amongst
them. A ??? Callahan was appointed by her as the executor. In October 1893 she added a
codicil in which she requested if Harlan had no heirs that his part would go to Ella May.
If Orris or his heirs (his whereabouts were unknown) didn't appear then Orris' share was
to be divided betwwon Mead and Elnora.
