The earliest records for the Bare family places them in Ohio circa 1830s. The family originated from either Pennsylvania or Virginia. Starting in the early 1850s, the Bare descendents continued to move westward, and settled in Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota, Idaho, Washington and Oregon.
