Pg.154: Clark Co. Ithey Nash, editor and proprietor of the Gudon Advocate, a Democratic paper, was born in Anson Co. NC, in 1846, the second of five children, four of whom are still living, born to the union of Jesse J. and Dorothy (Duncan) Nash, natives of NC. The family moved from NC to MS in 1856, locating in Monroe Co., where the mother died in 1856. The father is still living in Monroe Co. at the age of 72 years. ... (more on Nash family not copied here.) Jesse J. Nash was the grandson of Michael Nash and son of William Nash, a farmer by occupation, who died in NC. The Duncan family are of Scotch descent, and trace their ancestry back to the Scottish wars. The subject of this sketch was reared and schooled in MS ...; until 1873, then to Pike Co. AR, in 1877 to Clark Co. ... In 1868 he married Miss Annie E. Grissom, a daughter of John M. Grissom, of Itawamba Co. MS, and by this union is the father of 5 children, viz, Ithey Yerger, Lelus McCaulas, Zela Yerger, and Lee Duncan Hubbard and Ledonia Grissom Yerger, twins. The McCaulas and Hubbard are ancestral names. ... (nothing more on family)
Pg.167: Clark Co. AR. Willis S. Smith, MD, one of most prominent old settlers of AR, born Todd Co. KY near Elkton (then Logan Co.) Aug. 10, 1810, 5th of 12 children, 9 sons & 3 daus, born to Millington and Barbara (Barton) Smith, natives of Edgecombe Co. NC. They were married in Stewart Co. TN and in 1808 moved from TN to Western KY ... Russellville. In 1810, same year subject was born, parents moved back to Stewart Co. where Fort Donelson now is, and in 1817 removed to Johnson Co. IL where he and wife both died, he in 1836 in 76th year, she in 1832 age 52; both Baptist Church. His father, Willis Smith, was Rev. Soldier and killed at Bunker Hill, the son of George Smith native of Ireland who came to America, located in Edgecombe Co. NC where he died. Maternal ancestors of subject were also natives of Ireland. (MAD: nothing more said about Barton family; Barbara was a dau. of James Barton and Mary Duncan; James Barton's will is listed in 1804 in Logan Co. KY; from article about Cardwell B.R. Smith by Kirby D. Watkins on pg.85, Vol.24 #2, June 1986, "AR Family Historian")
Pg.168: Clark Co. AR. Judge Isaac W. Smith, Whelen Springs, AR ... born Johnson Co. IL, Jan. 13, 1818, son of Millington and Barbara (Barton) Smith, natives of Edgecombe Co. NC, both dying in IL, he in 1835 in 65th year, she in 1833 in 54th year. Millington Smith was son of Willis Smith, also farmer, and soldier in Rev. War killed in a battle with the Tories in NC, the son of George Smith, native of Ireland. Millington Smith to Stewart Co. TN when a boy with his mother, there grew up and married, in 1817 to IL, 13 children (MAD: named but not copied here).
