      17 Nov.? 1879, Declaration for Original Invalid Pension, Washington Co. TN, John M. Duncan, aged 38 years, resident of Hawkins Co. TN; he entered service under the name of John M. Duncan on 5 February 1863 as private in Co. B, 4th Regiment, TN Cav. Vols. commanded by Capt. Thos. H. Easley; discharged at Nashville, TN on 12 July 1865 by reason of SO No. 69 DPCS authority for TN troops; personal description: age 38; 5 ft 10"; complexion fair; hair dark; eyes blue. That while a member of the organization aforesaid, in the service and the line of duty at Coldwater, MS on or about 11 Feby 1864 received injury to spine by being thrown from his horse. That he was not treated in hospital; was treated by Dr. Elijah Hale Asst. Regimental surgeon in camp for said injury. Since leaving service has resided in the counties of Sullivan, Hawkins & Green in the state of TN except one year in the state of Illinois ... Occupation has been farmer. P.O. Address Falls Branch, Washington Co. TN. ...
      7 Jan. 1908, Declaration for Pension. Elbert Co. CO, John M. Duncan, 66 years of age, and a resident of Keysor P.O., Elbert Co. Colorado, the identical person who was enrolled at Barren Co. KY under the name of John M. Duncan on 5 February 1863 as a corporal, in Company B, 4th TN Cavalry in the service of the US in the Civil War, and was honarably discharged at Nashville, Tennessee on the 12th day of July 1865. That he was not employed in the military or naval service of the US otherwise than as stated above. That his personal description at enlistment was Height 5 ft 10 In, complexion light, eyes blue; hair dark; that his occupation was farmer; that he was born June 22, 1841, at Washington Co. TN. That his several places of residence since leaving the service have been as follows: Jonesboro, TN up til 1875, then he moved to Mount Vernon IL in 1875, Sugar City CO in 1904, Kiowa, Elbert Co. CO. That he has heretofore applied for pension 350246. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension roll of the US under the provisions of the act of Feb 6, 1907. That his post-office address is Keysor, Elbert Co. CO. /s/ John M. Duncan. Wit. R.L. Brown, Edgar Brewer, both residents of Elbert Co., who have known him 1-1/2 years each. ...

      Cataloged under Civil War, 1861-1865, pensions, indexes; does not say if Confederate or Federal, but probably Federal. Negative film, some cards much too faint or dark to read, some cards blurred or faded, particularly the service unit and the dates of application. Most of the very faint or dark cards were in a slightly different format, with space for years enlisted and discharged which were sometimes filled in. Many of these were for service in later years, although one or two were for service ca 1866.
      Name of soldier, alias, name of dependent widow or minor, service (military unit or units), date of filing, class (invalid or widow or minor or other), Application #, Certificate #, state from which filed (sometimes blank), attorney (sometimes blank, MAD: did not usually copy), remarks. Sometimes the "Invalid" or "Widow" class had an "s" added to it before the application #; occasionally the area for the service information included a circled "S". The minor's name was frequently that of the guardian rather than the minor.
      The military unit was frequently the Company Letter, the Regiment Number, sometimes US Vet Vol Inf. (US Veteran Volunteer Infantry), L.A. (Light Artillery), H.A. (Heavy Artillery), US C Inf (US Colored? Infantry), Cav. (Cavalry), Mil. Guards, V.R.C. (?Volunteer Reserve Corps?), etc. Sometimes there were several service units given.
      Cards appear to be arranged by the last name, first name, middle initial if any, and state (including "US") of service.

KY to David Bunch (no location), whereas said Duncan by attorney 12 Oct. 1824 conveyed to Bunch the land, deed was recorded but power of attorney has not been there recorded, and Duncan not desiring any difficulty should arise, now for $1 deed to said David Bunch the land in said deed. KY, for $750 paid, sell parcel of land with appurtenances in Clarke Co. on waters of Strodes Creek from near to Strodes Station, being part of a tract of land conveyed by John Strode then Senr. to said Abijah Brooks since decd by deed 30 Dec. 1802 recorded in Clarke Co., for 199 acres, whereof the tract of land hereby conveyed descended to said Polly Duncan from her father Abijah Brooks decd in parcinary by virtue of a partition of the lands of said decd. being made by commissioners appointed by Circuit Court of Clarke Co. in suit in Chancery, but now determined, the said Sarah Duncan &c were complts. against Abijah Brooks &c Defts and which tract of land hereby conveyed is bounded beg. in south edge of the public road from Town of Winchester to Lexington & corner to tract of land containing 199 acres so conveyed as afsd, then to ... another corner of said 199 acre tract, then ... to corner to partition No.6, then to corner to same and in a line of Partition No.7, then with a line of that partition and Partition No.8 to a stake in a line of said 199 acre tract & corner to partition No.8, then with that line ... to the beginning, containing 24 acres 3 roods and 4 square poles, together with appurtenances, ... warrant title. /s/ Joseph Duncan, Mary Duncan. They appeared 22 Dec. 1817 before William Logan, Clerk of Barren Co. KY Court, and Polly Duncan was examined and agreed she conveyed her whole estate in said tract.       20-509/511: 6 Sept. 1823, Thomas Duncan of Barren Co. KY for good causes appointed Micah Taul of Clarke Co. my attorney at law and in fact to take possession of a certain parcel of land in Clarke Co. near Strodes Station containing about 20 acres being the same ?..? to my son Abijah Duncan since decd as one of the ?said? legal distributees of his grandfather Abijah Brooks decd'd to which I am entitled as the sole heir of my said deceased son and I do hereby authorize my said attorney to commence any suit in law or chancery which may be necessary as well for the recovery of said land as for the recovery of the rents & profits thereof which have or may accrue and as compensation for his services I agree to sell him 1/4 part of said land, and bind myself to convey the same to him by deed in fee simple, but should I not succeed, then he is not to be paid anything for his services, and I authorize him to cause the controversy to be settled with the other heirs by arbitration if he thinks proper and to make sale of said land if he thinks most advisable. /s/ T. KY, for $332.70 paid, sell tract of land in Clarke Co. on head waters of Strodes Creek containing 20 acres 3 roods and 7 poles, being part of a tract of 199 acres conveyed by Jno. Strode Sr. decd. to Abijah Brooks also decd., the said 20 acres 3 roods and 7 poles being that part which was allotted to Abijah Duncan, one of the legal heirs of said Abijah Brooks decd. under a decree of Clarke Circuit Court at Sept. term 1815, to which said Thomas Duncan is entitled as heir at law to said Abijah Duncan, bounded beg. at letter L on the platt, corner to John Strode and to platt No.1, then to (O) at stake corner to Lot No.4, then ... line of Lot No.2, then ... corner to Lot No.2 and in a line of Platt No.1, then ... to the beginning, with appurtenances, warrant title. /s/ Thomas Duncan by M.       28-159: 21 Feb. 1837, Thomas Duncan and Judith his wife of Barren Co. KY to John Ecton of Clarke Co. KY, for $300 paid, sell their interest whether in possession ... or reversion, to a tract of land in Clarke Co. KY near Strodes old station on Strodes Creek, being the land which was allotted to the widow of Abijah Brooks decd for her dower and it being the same land on which the said Ecton now resides, containing by survey 101 acres more or less, the part hereby sold being one undivided eleventh part of sd tract, warrant title of said Thomas and also of his late wife Eleanor, now deceased, and also of his late son Abijah, now deceased, who was the only child of him the said Thomas & his first wife Eleanor. /s/ T. Jacob Dillon in 1834 to KY, settled south part of Barren Co.; with a friend, he purchased 280 acres, afterward sold his interest and teamed for one year, then rented for nine years until he purchased 150 acres where he then resided for ten years; he then sold out and located where he now resides ... he and his wife own four farms in Barren Co., containing in all about 551 acres. August 15, 1837, he married Naoma Greer who was born and reared in Franklin Co. VA, dau. of Matthew and Rhoda (Chambers) Greer of Franklin Co. Mrs. Dillion died March 19, 1848, mother of: Elizabeth C. (Smith), July A. (Smith), Rhoda A. (Mosley), and Eliza Jane (Young). Mr. Dillion next married, Feb. 14, 1854, Mary Jane Duncan, dau. of Thomas & Maria (Foster) Duncan, who came from VA in an early day. Six children were born, two of whom were reared: Thomas William and Amanda J. Furgerson. Mrs. Dillion is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. ...

Five miles southeast of Platte City is located the farm of Mr. Duncan -- a good place of 120 acres, well improved. Though a native of Clay Co. MO, born June 19, 1860, he has resided in Platte the most of his life. His father, James F. Duncan, a Kentuckian by birth, born in Barren Co. January 26, 1816, came to MO when a young man and settled in Clay county in 1832. He was married in Andrew county, near Savannah, to Miss Sarah Tracy, daughter of Sebert and Anna (Scott) Tracy, both from Garrett county, Ky.; Mrs. Duncan also having been born in that State but reared in Andrew county. After their marriage they continued to reside in Clay county until 1866, then settling in Platte county, where Mr. Duncan bought land and improved the farm on which the subject of this sketch now resides, and where he died January 6, 1878. ....

VA but d. 1851 in KY where he emigrated 1807. Harrison Eller to TX 1859, died Dec. 6, 1885, was a farmer and 46 years a preacher in ME Church South. His wife, mother of George W., was Margaret J. Allen, a dau. of James Allen of KY, a county surveyor. Harrison Eller & wife had following children: Mary F. married Thomas Duncan, Julia A. married George Dumfield, George W. above, Linda married W.M. Crutchfield, Florence G. married George Eller, Nancy married Clayton Rogers but died 1868. George W. Eller ... 1875 married Harriet R. Stimpson, 4 children. (MAD: no TX county mentioned)
