      A-170 (A-299): 7 Nov. 1853, T.A.F. Hermann Newbert to James S. Duncan, land on waters of Black Creek, corner of Easlin's and Lane big 5000 acre survey, said Lain's line, including G.W.A. Freytags improvement, including 54 acres, being part of tract sold by Julian F. Scott to J.S. Duncan who sold to me 16 Aug. 1851, "said piece of land I was owing to J.S. Duncan 35 dollars for get and give up hear bag (hereby?) to J.S. Scott #2281, county line of Morgan and Scott near the road, east bank of Wolf Creek, top of the mountain between Wolf and Brimstone, S. boundary line of tract #2281, being part of entry #1925 on 17 Feb. 1836, grant #22242, excluding Andrew Lewalen's lands that he may have a better title; wit. W.J. Scott "as to J.S.D.", H. Lewallen.
      A-182 (A-326): 22 June 1854, James Lackey of Scott Co. TN to James S. Duncan of Morgan Co. TN, $400, 100 acres incl. the land granted to John Ried Jr. #20403, Entry #317 of 8 March 1826; wit. J.L. Smith, C. Looper.
      A-196 (not given): 12 Sept. 1854, appeared Stephen A. Glaslan and H. Rey, witnesses to the title bond, acquainted with Allen Reed the bargainor. I C.H. Caffles have assigned all the interest I have in the within bond to James S. Duncan to obtain title; 11 Sept. 1854; wit. R.M. Bowling, Isin? H. Jones.       A-205 (A-379): 12 Sept. 1854, Rufus M. Bennett of Morgan Co. TN to James S. Duncan of same, $300, land adj. town of Huntsville, beginning at center of Cain Creek, 4 poles north of Emanuel Phillips old beginning corner, containing 30 acres more or less, after excluding the 15a which includes the town of Huntsville and other portions excluded in Phillips deed to me; wit. A.L. Brient, H. Human.
      A-211 (A-393): 24 Nov. 1854, Julin F. Scott to James S. Duncan, both Morgan Co. TN, $2000, land on Wolf Creek partly in Morgan Co. and partly in Scott Co., adj. south of where Able Peak lived, crossing Geanes Creek Road, corner Scott's entry #1725, including grants #26787 of 10 acres to James Bruten, #26851 of 100 acres to James Bruten, #27730 granted to J.F. Scott entered by Thomas Staples on 26 March 1828 of 100 acres on Woolf Creek and including part of grant #26810 for 5000 acres entered by W. Looper on 27 Jan. 1827, including all lands first described per grant #22342 founded on an entry #1797 made in Morgan Co. on 19 Nov. 1835, excluding any land of superior title owned by citizen of Woolf Creek, excluding part that I the said Scott made good title to, including "residence" of grant #22342, including house and farm on which James Bruten formerly lived, in all 4000 acres (MAD: sic) more or less on both sides Woolf Creek; wit. Riley Long, E. Lopper.
      A-212 (A-395): This day (no date), James S. Duncan to William J. Scott for $1, 400 acres (MAD: sic), part in 5th Dist. of Morgan Co. and part in 3rd Dist. of Scott Co., about 1/2 mile south of where Able Peak lived, crossing Goose Creek Road, crossing Wolf Creek, corner of Scott's entry #1725, said land entered by Julian F. Scott #1797 on 19 Nov. 1835, and by grant #22342 for 500 acres, excluding any of superior title and that J.F. Scott made title to other persons including house and farm where James Bruton formerly lived, containing by estimation "besides the excluding a few acres", 4000 acres more or less; mortgage; Duncan owes Julian F. Scott $2000 by notes of this date due this 27 Nov. 1854, bearing interest, in order to secure payments I am to pay $1000 in bank at Athens and also to pay $500 in Walden Academy of Morgan Co. and remainder $500 according to agreement between J.F. Scott and Jas. S. Duncan this date, held by me Wm. J. Scott, and said Julian F. Scott is to endorse for said Duncan the renewal of $1000 debt; reg. 28 Nov. 1854.
      A-214 (A-399): 21 Dec. 1852, James Bruten of Scott Co. TN to James S. Duncan of Morgan Co. TN, $400, 3 tracts on Black Wolf creek, total 130 acres, (1) 10 acres at Walkers corner, being located by Sarpa? Dougherty on 20 April 1845 under #2254 granted James Bruton #26787; (2) 20 acres near N. Dougherty's survey entered by David Proaskill? on 8 Oct. 1824 #152 and granted to James Bruton #26852; (3) 100 acres near N.
