Hi Don,We are looking for "Kelley". What we know:Edward J Kelley of Androscoggin County, Lewiston Maine, a tinsmith by trade, married Ellen Simmons of Bangor, Maine. They moved to Lowell, Massachusetts and had the following children: Marguerite, who married Larry Caratelli; no childrenEdward Henry, born December 14, 1898 in Lowell, Massachusetts, married Mary Rowan, born September 4, 1900 in Boston, Massachusetts; they had four daughters;Daniel, (never married) who died many years ago but attended Boston College majoring in Greek and Latin and then worked for the Boston Post;Eileen, who married Timothy Donovan, they had one child who died shortly after birth and Eileen died in 1952-53 in Boston;John P Kelley who married Mary Finn and resided in Roslindale, MA. Their children are Marie, Edward, Barbara, Kathy and James. We know that the family lived on Ashley Street in Jamaica Plain, Mass and also on Woodside Ave, same city. At some point Edward J., the father, worked at the Naval Shipyard in Boston. All the children of Edward and Ellen are deceased. We know that John was an engineer and so was Edward (my father). Edward went to the Lowell Technological Institute; he worked for Studebaker in Indiana and then came to Detroit, MI and worked for the Chevrolet Division of General Motors until his retirement. Edward died in 1972.This is all we know and we are having a terrible time finding anything about Kelley or Simmons in Maine. We think our grandparents were married in Maine but so far have had no luck finding much because we know so little to start.Glad you have the website. Thanks a million.Kate Kelley Hazelton

My gggrandfather, Jonathan KELLY emigrated to Canada from Tyrone abt 1818, settling in Quebec. There seems to be no trace of where in Tyrone he came from. Names of his seven sons, in birth order, are James, Robert, Jonathan, Thomas, George, Samuel, Joseph. He married in Canada Sarah Jane BATES who was also from Tyrone.
Am looking for the parents of my grandfather James Monroe Kelly/Kelley. James named his oldest son Marion Franklin and there are other Franklins in our family as given names. I have two lines of Kellys, since James married his cousin Mary Frances Trant whose grandmother was Rebecca Kelly born SC. Rebecca's father was Daniel Kelly supposedly from Ireland and shows in records in SC and in Warren Co., Ga in 1805 in tax records. Both the Trant/Trent and Kelly/Kelly families were in Wilkes Co. and Warren Co. at same time. James mother supposedly was named Martha and when she died James father remarried. James had brothers Thomas, John and Frank and a sister if this passed down info is correct. James father was a gunsmith and was killed by an inebriated customer. Does this have any connection with your family?
Looking for information about the origins of Martin Kelly, probably born in County Galway around 1818. He came to the US in the 1840s and settled in Portland, ME. He married in 1848 to Mary Nee (Needham) and had several children. In 1867 he moved to Lewiston, ME and stayed there until he died. His first child was Michael and next was Brian.
