I am searching for my pruitt family history. my great grandmother was a Cherokee
Indian her name was Jane. Around 1881 Jane married into the pruitt family that
lived in Oklahoma Indian Territory. Her husbands name might have been Samual but
am not sure. Jane was born about 1860-1866.Jane gave birth to three children a
girl Onita Zeola and a son Thomas it is said that Jane died shortly after the
birth of her third child. the third child sex unknown died of starvation after
Jane passed away. My grand father Pruitt remarried and his two children that
were half Indian went to live with his mother. I do have some information on
her. My Grandfather Pruitt had children with his second wife but I do not know
who or how many.
It is said that there was a town named after my great grandfather Pruitt city
Oklahoma. the story goes that Great grandfather was drilling for oil and he was
the first man to hit oil in town so they named the town after him.
I know that there must be some one out there that knows of or is related to Jane
any information is welcome. Thank you, Ann
Unfortunately I have no further info on my Pruitt line. This line has become a
serious stumbling block. I know there are descendants out there that know the
family history...I met some at a reunion when I was a kid...but no one now seems
to be willing to part with their knowledge. I was just fishing with my previous
post...using all my bait!
All I know is that my Pruitts were in the Shoal Creek area of Hart County, GA
abt 1880. John W. Pruitt (b abt 1845 d 1904) was head of household. He was
married to a Lucy ??? Their known children were--- (in order of birth)
-Francis (f)
-James William (b abt 1870 d abt 1930)
-Samuel (d abt 1850)
-John (d abt 1950)
-Rose Ella (b 28 May 1875)
-Troas (f) (b Sep 1878)
-Albert Ackerman (b 2 Jan 1880 d 11 Mar 1940)
-Charles E. (b 22 Jan 1887 d 30 Jan 1954)
...Charles and family farmed in Oklahoma ... moved to SC and then to FL as
result of Dust Bowl & Depression of 1930s...Son Charles and family lived in TX.
-Dayton Richard (b 18 Mar 1889 d 1926)
**George Herbert (b 8 Aug 1891 in Shoal Creek, Hart, GA; d 6 Dec 1941 at
Westminster, Oconee, SC)
....Married Willie Liceny Crawford, lived in GA, SC, FL & NC...Known issue (4):
George Albert, Hilda Amanda, Vera Hope (twin), Jimmy (twin).
-Julian Fletcher (b 1 Apr 1894 d 24 Nov 1959)
This is all I know for certain. Census records are hit and miss. A supposed fire
destroyed many courthouse records...haven't found ANY land or probate records.
It seems as if they were flying under the radar!
This family is a mystery surrounded by a brick wall!

I too am descended from Tillman Dixon Pruitt and Diannah
Farrar. Their
daughter, Martha L Pruitt married George Washington Wilson, Sr. Their son
Millard Filmore Wilson m'd Frances Barts (aka Barto) Dickey. Their daughter
Inez Minnie Mae Wilson m'd Jess Emery Montgomery. They had my dad, Melvin
Charles (aka Charles Melvin - thanks to the US Army). My Mother is Hazel
Maxine
Overstreet Montgomery, still alive at 85 and living in Oklahoma City, about
3 miles from me. My dad died in 1990.
