Rutledge of New Jersey
Hi Elizabeth, I wish I could help you but I doubt very much if I can connect
with what little info I have on my early Rutledge line. I have a John B.
Smith who was born somewhere in New Jersey about 1810. One of his sons (Abner
b. 1840, Fountain co., Indiana) married Nancy Jane Rutledge who was the
daughter of John Wesley Rutledge and Susan Hannah Lyons. I have a quite a bit of
descendents info on John B. Smith, but nothing about his parentage or where
exactly in New Jersey he was born. I sure wish I knew. I have the given
names of Charles, John, Elizabeth, Hannah and James in my Rutledge/Smith line,
but they are all pretty common names so that doesn't help much either. We
should all be so lucky as to have a John Smith to research.....ha ha. Cheryl

Hello - I stumbled across your email address (I hope you don't mind my
contacting you!) while doing some genealogy research on my Rutledge
ancestors. I came across a Rutledge/Kelly website, but when I tried to
email the contact person, my email was bounced back. You had a recent
dialog going on with someone, so I am contacting you with my question
(which you may or may not be able to answer).
My grandmother was Florian Rutledge, born @ 1901 in Passaic, NJ. Her
father was Thomas Rutledge, born 1873 in Passaic. His parents were
Patrick Rutledge and Hannah Leahy.
Patrick Rutledge was born in Ireland circa 1832 -1834. Oral family
history says that he was born in County Mayo and emigrated around the
time of the famine to Boston. He left his family behind in Ireland.
He married Hannah Leahy in May of 1854 in Dedham, MA. His marriage
certificate names his parents as James Rutledge and Bridget (unknown).
That is, unfortunately, the extent of the information that I've been
able to track down, and I am at a standstill. My hope is obviously to
be able to track Patrick back to Ireland, and to find some (any)
information on who is family was and where they lived.
Do you have any suggestions? I've tried for a death certificate for
Patrick Rutledge, but came up empty. My next step to to try to track
down his Naturalization papers.
Do you know how I would post this to the site I came across?
Thanks for any suggestions. I apologize if I've contacted you in error.
