DOWN  HOME  MEMORIES

The following two songs, composed and sung by my brother, Ronald G. Farquhar, state the feelings of many former Maritimers. Ron was stationed at various Royal Canadian Air Force bases, filling in his time between computer technician work by singing and playing the guitar and more recently, the organ. I share these feelings with many. -- Muriel M. (Farquhar) Davidson

NOVA  SCOTIAN  MEMORIES
By: Ronald Gordon Farquhar

 Chorus:
[Ron always sang the Chorus first - in all his songs]

1. Many years ago I left my homeland,
Left my friends to seek my wealth and fame,
Now I’m rolling down the Nova Scotian highway,
Going back to see the folks who have my name.

 Chorus
Rolling down the Nova Scotian highway,
Many sights I see along the way,
The green rolling hills and the woodlands,
The fishing huts that are built along the way.

2. The many friends I knew in my homeland,
Have long ago moved up to better ways,
My early days were tough in my childhood,
But I loved my dear old home along the bay.

 Chorus

3. When I get home I’ll stay among my kinfolk,
In the dear old home I knew along the shore,
Rolling down the Nova Scotian highway,
To the dear old friends and country I adore.

 Chorus:

The following song was composed while stationed at CFB Baccaro, in
Shelburne County -- Ron sang it for the first time at a going-away party for
he and his wife, Joan, following a transfer to another base.

THE  SHORES  OF  BACCARO
By:  Ronald Gordon Farquhar

 Chorus:
By the windy rocky shores of Baccaro
Where the men of the service long to go,
Where the fog comes in at night,
  And it disappears from sight,
Those rocky storm tossed shores of Baccaro.

1. I came here three years ago, and in a gale,
I bumped along the road through villagedale,
   There’s another way that’s fair,
When the road from ice is bare,
Sixty turns from old Port Clyde and you are there.

 Chorus:

2. Fishing boats along the shore,
    Pretty maidens by the score,
A friendly smile will always come your way,
Come on down and stay a while,
We will greet you all in style,
Your’re welcome on the shores of Baccaro.

 Chorus:

3. Now I have to leave the shores of Baccaro,
And I’m telling all my friends I hate to go,
People make you feel at home,
So you never want to roam,
From the rocky friendly shores of Baccaro.

 Chorus:

[Should you ever hear the Dartmouth Chapter S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A., or one of its quartets,  that is where you will presently find my brother Ron] Muriel M. Davidson.
