The original entries will be marked by ** preceding the date and form of writing has been matched to the diary and original copy. Lt.Col. Robert Ford Kirkpatrick (USAF-Ret'd) published an abbreviated version of the following diary in The Liverpool Advance, with three episodes under the heading : Queen' s County Historical Society. Kirk added a few words of
explanation in the first chapter -- these may also have been reprinted here.
The genealogical data in THE DIARY OF SIMEON PERKINS is very valuable, contains much of the history of the Proprietors who founded the Township of Liverpool, Nova Scotia in 1759. Readers will be familiar with many of the surnames listed in the entries, descendants of the first families of the Township of Liverpool and nearby areas still reside there, but often the surname spelling has changed.
The original books, contained in Volumes I, II, III, IV and V, list many of the schooners and other forms of shipping plus extensive data of weather, tides, encountered hardships and a verbal picture of life in the early days as found by the Proprietors of the Township of Liverpool. Readers are grateful these records were kept.

3 June Tues. : Day of rejoicing over the repeal of the Stamp Act..
in the evening the company marched to the home of Major John Doggett and were entertained. Major John Doggett was largely responsible for the first settlement in 1759 and for the first large migration to Liverpool in 1760. [See DOGGETT NOTES]**
4 June Wed. : Capt. Josiah Godfrey arrived from New Haven. He is
loaded with grain, etc. Holt chartered him.
7 June Sat. : Liverpool PACKET sails at evening. Henry Stewart is
master. Plaiceway goes to trade with the Indians.
The vessel is 22 tons, and built for this trade.
** 8 June Sun. : Benj. Adgate's mother dead.
(Probably at Norwich, CT. Perkins' sister married an Adgate).
**19 June Thur.: Family of Paul Doten leave Liverpool for Plymouth, MA
**22 Aug. Fri. : Wife of Thomas Gordon dies in afternoon, bur. 23 Aug.
**11 Oct. Sat. : Bones located at Port Medway. Believed those of persons lost March 1761: Joshua Harding, John Young, and 2 sons of Peleg Dexter, i.e. John and Elisha.
20 Oct. Mon. : A shipload of settlers for Port Mutton (Mouton) arrive there.
23 Oct. Thurs: Cannot agree for timber there (Port Mutton). Our people offer it at 8 shillings per ton. There are sixty-two (62) souls in the ship to settle at Port Mutton.

21 Nov. Fri. : I go to Port Medway to examine the bones found there
(11 Oct.). Prince Snow and Nathaniel Godfrey go with me ... The bones look old ... I do not think they are the bones of the missing ones.
22 Nov. Sat. : We arrive at Liverpool at 2 P.M., bringing the bones to Liverpool.
5 Dec. Fri. : The Freemasons Lodge was formed two weeks ago, at
which John Doggett, Esq., Samuel Doggett, Ebenezer Doggett, Jesse Dodge, Robert Slocombe and Gilbert Manthorne were introduced to that fraternity.1767

1 Apr. Sat. : Mr. James Knowles and Mr. Stephen Smith arrived from

3 Apr. Mon. : The dwelling house of Ebenezer Dexter, at Great Hill,
was burnt. He and his wife were from home. Their eight year old son
(Benjamin b. Rochester March 23, 1758), carried out the cradle with an
infant child (Ebenezer b. July 20, 1766).
8 Apr. Sat. : Today I move into my new house. It being newly
plaistered, and I not being well, I did not choose to move sooner.
** 9 May Sat. : Body of Joseph Cone drowned 5 months ago found today.
**14 May Thurs.: Stephen Morine marr. Miss Susannah Patterson at
Plaiceway's. (Liverpool).
4 June Thur.: Thomas Burnaby, thought to be near his end, was this
day baptized in his bed, and received into the Church by Rev. Israel Cheever.

**28 July Tues.: Elijah Minard marr. Miss Mary Stevens.
6 Aug. Thur.: The wife of Joseph Collins, Jr. and the wife of Sam'l
Dolliver each delivered of a daughter. The Collins child died at night
**18 Aug. Tues. : Wife of Lemuel Hunt buried, he is fishing.
21 Aug. Fri. : Jonathan Darling comes from Port Jolly, he is
wounded in a fray with Robert Roberts.
28 Aug. Fri. : A negro sailor was found guilty of taking fish out
of Snow's yard, valued at one shilling (petite larceny).
He was ordered stripped, whipped 20 stripes, set in the stocks one hour, pay
treble damage, and costs of prosecution. He was whipped at the new
whipping post, and stocks. He was the first to suffer such punishment.
(NOTE: This was located on the Commons, known now as The Parade).
31 Aug. Mon. : News brought of the death of my sister at Norwich on
July 27th. She married an Adgate.
21 Nov. Sat. : At half past ten, a.m., sail for Norwich in schooner
JOLLY FISHERMAN, which I built in Liverpool. My whole family - 21 in
all - consisting of myself, brother Hezekiah, two apprentices and my
housekeeper. Anchor at Port Hebere (L'Hebert) at evening. Liverpool is
in poor condition -- no fish.
30 Nov. Mon. : Perkins arrived at New London (CT.) and set out on
horseback for Norwich.
Simeon Perkins kept a diary while absent from Liverpool, Nova Scotia, at Norwich, Conn. -- the entries do not pertain to Liverpool, N.S. He was at Norwich from 21 Nov 1767 to 15 June 1769.

**16 June Fri. : Thomas Bee's wife died (earlier).
** 7 July Fri. : William Tripp is dead and nothing to be got. (Outside
of Liverpool area). [Possibly this meant area of residence].
** 8 July Sat : Body of John Patterson, a lad drowned at Birch Cove
(Liverpool), on the river, found at Sandy Cove (Liverpool) on the
harbor.
**26 July Wed. : John Dolliver's wife died of convulsive fit.1770
** 8 May : John Noyes, of Horton, as he said, drowned in Liverpool Bay. [BOSTON in printed diary copy - mmd.].
29 May Tues. : Representatives were chosen. William Smith and me for

Magistrates at Dublin (east side of Medway Harbour), desiring them to
take care of John Huskins, and family.

**14 May Thur. : Eben Nickerson died in ye morning.
29 May Fri. : A shallop arrived from Halifax, Doliver master. Mr.
Peter Collins comes in her from Port Metway, and says he was taken by
five Privateers at LeHave last Wednesday, and his vessel burned. She
was owned by Banajah and Stephen Collins. He was allowed to take out
what he called his own. Then the schooner was stripped and burned.
** 7 June Sat. : Seth Freeman and John Kinney off on a Privateer
(American). Rob Doliver and Joseph Verge gone with Cole (American).
18 June Thur.: Candidates for Militia Officers meet at Mr. West's,
all except Mr. Banajah Collins. (He petitioned Sept. 3/1778 to be allowed to return to Mass. with his family).
29 July Tues.: Capt. Atwood sails for Portmetway and Halifax.
** 6 Aug. Thur.: Mr. Joseph Tinkham appointed on the goods of Robert
Ambrose, deceased.
**19 Aug. Wed. : My wife safely delivered of a son.

4 Sept Fri. :Waitestill Lewis is arrived from Barrington, in a
shallop. ... Waitestill Lewis, Sr., went from Rhode Island to Halifax
where he kept a public house. When hostilities began, he moved to
Liverpool, and then returned to Boston. His son settled at Yarmouth and assisted American prisoners to return.
**25 Sept. Fri. : One of the Privateer gang comes by land to town. His
name is Rowland Edwards. A shoemaker. Born at Rochester, and lived at Egg Harbor about eight years, wants to remain here and work his trade.
27 Sept. Sun. : Hear the Privateers Crew at Port Matoon have gone westward with Gamaliel Stuart's boat and robbed the people at Jones Harbour of some guns.
** 3 Oct. Sat. : I set off paraphinalia to widows Ford and Snow.
23 Nov. Mon. : Michael Turpin of Ragged Islands, is a corpse on
board Schnr. BETSEY with Capt. Jesse Atwood. Turpin died about 12 last night. Had been sick some time at Halifax. He is buried by the Overseers of the Poor.
24 Nov. Tues. : Job Huskins to go on Schnr. BETSEY for one trip
with Capt. Atwood.
**26 Dec. : David Barss died suddenly at Portmatoon on a voyage,
while gunning on Dec. 26, 1778 - supposed to die of quincy. ...

buried this afternoon. She was d.o. widow Isabell McLarn (McClearn).
**13 Apr. Tues.: News that Angus Chisholm of Port Medway, was drowned
yesterday morning, or rather the day before, in a boat that overset in
