   Opal Cemetery is north of Springtown near the Wise County - Parker County line.
   From Hwy 51, turn east on CR 4898. Go a couple of miles to a "T" and turn right on CR 4797. When the road turns right (Sneed St) stay going straight on a driveway type road. You will see the white pipe gate that goes into the cemetery to the right.
    This cemetery has some of the oldest headstones in the county, but it is also still being used for new burials.
   There is a large number of graves that are marked with only "field stones".
   Last winter the cemetery had tall grass, but it was mowed in the summer.
   We numbered the headstones in "loose" rows from the west to the east. The rows start on the north and go south, but because the rows wandered so much we did not number them.

In September 2001 we found 100 headstones. A survey done by C.M. "Corky" Miller, of Azle, in 1999 included two headstones that we didn’t find. The information for them is listed as headstones number [101] and [102]. A listing done in 1965 by Mr. & Mrs. Homer L. Roper had 3 additional headstones for a total of 105.
