Hyde Cemetery

westlake Hyde Gate.jpg (114552 bytes) Hyde Cemetery is located southwest of Runaway Bay. Go to the west, past Runaway Bay, on Hwy 380 and turn left on CR 3701. The cemetery is on the left after about a mile.

It's an old cemetery with many broken and hard-to-read stones. We took pictures of 41 headstones in Dec 2000. We did not lay the cemetery off in rows but did number the headstones from north to south.

There's a Historical Marker at the gate that reads as follows:

Hyde Cemetery

J.E. Barnes purchased this site in 1885 from P.J. Hyde and his wife Mary E. Hyde. The earliest marked graves are those of Barnes’ wife Dizania (b. 1861) and son Felix both of whom died on December 4, 1879. Many early settlers of the abandoned Jim Ned Community (two miles north) are also buried here. Named for an Indian Chief, Jim Ned was a thriving settlement before 1900 and included a church, school, mercantile store, and post office. About 75 graves at this site are unmarked. Others are indicated only with rocks and fences.

Dwight information was sent by James Manford Dwight, grandson of J.M.H. Dwight. He was a tombstone maker in north TX and then moved to NM in 1910 or 1911. jdwight@accdvm.accd.edu

Eternal Oaks Cemetery at Runaway Bay

westlake Eternal Oaks gate.jpg (81293 bytes) Eternal Oaks is in the Runaway Bay edition. It's on the south side of Hwy 380. On Hwy 380 go west and cross the Lake Bridgeport bridge. Go to the third exit on the left (Exit #6) and turn left onto Port-O-Call. Head east on Port-O-Call until you come to Palomino Ct. on the right. The cemetery is on the corner of Palomino Ct. and Port-O-Call.

It's a new cemetery with 18 headstones. In December 2000 we did not lay off rows but moved from west to east as we numbered headstones.

Jim Ned Cemetery or McDaniel Cemetery

westlake Jim Ned sign.jpg (64943 bytes) Jim Ned Cemetery is called McDaniel Cemetery on the new road maps. It's on the west side of Lake Bridgeport in the Hideaway Bay area. On Hwy 380 go west past Runaway Bay and turn right on CR 1700. Go about 2 miles and turn right at the Jim Ned Cemetery (Hideaway Bay) sign. Go a little over 2 miles and you will see the cemetery on the left.

This is a rather new cemetery and in December 2000 there were 75 headstones. We moved from east to west as we numbered the headstones.
