After finding the Revolutionary War record of John Smith which contained information that he is one and the same person as John Smith Baisden, a further search for records for "John Smith" revealed several rejected claims in the Library of Virginia records collection; one of which was a match to the Revolutionary War record of John Smith a.k.a. Baisden.
