The Joseph Z. and Rachel A. (Mercer) Schwyhart family
Joseph and Rachel had 10 children. We have information on some
of them, but continue to seek additional information, corrections, and updates.

Additional information on Joseph and Rachel is provided after the list of
their children.
Their Children:
1. Maria E. Schwyhart (b. Sep 1830, OH; d. 1900/1910) married John L. Dawson, we know of two children.
2. James M. Schwyhart (b. Nov 1853, OH). In 1910 census for Guernsey Co, OH, he appears at age 56, as Music Teacher, Public School, sharing his home with his sister, Eliza, 43, and a Boarder, another school teacher. James and Eliza are also listed in Knox Twp, Guernsey Co, OH, in the 1930 census, he is 77, she is 63.
3. Sarah E. Schwyhart (b. 1856) - from 1870 family census data - seek more information on her
4. Martha S. Schwyhart (b. 1858, OH) married William J. Pollock in 1897. They had a son, Charles E. Pollock, b. 1902, who was listed as a Teacher in Com School in 1920 census, Liberty Twp, Guernsey Co, Ohio. The father, William, is listed as a Blacksmith, with his own shop.
5. John Schwyhart (b. 1859, OH) - appeared in 1860 census as age 8/12, and not again...
6. Mary Jane Schwyhart (b. 1861, OH) married William A. Lewis, they had 4 known children.
7. Eliza Schwyhart (b. Jul 1865, OH) appears with the family in the each cen sus of 1870, 1880, 1900. In 1910 and 1920, she appears with her brother, James M., as a single person.
8. Barbara Ann Schwyhart (b. Jul 1867, OH) appears with her parents in census reports through 1900. In 1910, she is living in the Pollock family (her sister, Martha, 4. above). Believe she died 6 Apr 1958, per Ohio Death Index. Need to confirm this is her.
9. Hattie Mae Schwyhart (b. 1869, OH) appears on 1870 census, and not again...
10. Cordia (or Corda) Bell Schwyhart (b. Nov 1872, OH) married John Nelson. They had a daughter, Eva Mae, who married a man named Baird.
