Volume 6 Number 1

PURPOSE OF E162 PROJECT
While the Goals of the E162 Project remain much as originally stated in Issue 1 Number 1 of the E162 News and in the E162 Project Goals, it appears appropriate to note that the priority or usefulness of those Goals is not necessarily matched by their position in that list. In fact the most used capability of the Project resources is really somewhat buried in the middle and at the bottom of that list. That service is, of course, the providing, to researchers, of information about data concerning individuals contained in the E162 Database and the source (sources - in the many cases of conflicting opinion) of that data.

It is the ability to use the E162 Database as a comprehensive index to everything we are able to find about people using the EV/EB surnames that makes this service possible. In most cases we are able to provide specific references to locations in published works where the data can be found. In many cases we are able to put researchers in contact with other researchers who have data that has not been published. (This is the primary reason we try to obtain detailed data linking researchers to an EV/EB ancestor, even though the researcher is living, and may not have an EV/EB surname. The E162 DataBase "daughters out" and "grandmothers out"in most other EV/EB lines.) In some cases, where our volunteer "genealogical archeologists" have placed reproducible copies of source documents in the E62 archives, we may be able to provide copies of specific documents.

As stated elsewhere much of the data in the E162 Database comes from copyrighted documents, and we rigorously follow the fair usage restrictions of such material. We encourage researcher to support the authors of published works by buying their works, not only because it the legal thing to do, but also because it is the best way to encourage these and other researchers to publish their results on which they have spent countless hours, effort and money. I know of no genealogy author that ever recovered their investment except perhaps Alex Haley.

DATABASE STATUS
Over 270 new individuals have been added to the EV/EB portion of the E162 Database since our last report. As of 16 Feb 2003 there are 2169 Ebersoles, 2229 Eversoles, 174 Ebersols, 169 Eversulls, 56 Ebersohls, 43 Aebersolds and 2 Ebersolls born with an EV/EB surname in the database plus 1460 females who have married an EV/EB male for a total of 6326 people who have used the EV/EB surname. In addition there are 1325 males who have married EV/EB females for a grand total of 7790 people in the EB/EV portion of the E162 Database.

WORLDCONNECT PUBLIC DATABASE UPDATE
Our WORLDCONNECT (aka AWT , aka ANCESTRY.COM SEARCH ) public database, edeversole database, was updated in February 2003. Remember that this public database contains only the current best guess BMDB data about non living people extracted from the full E162 Database. Serious researchers should contact the E162 Project to find out what data is in the full E162 Database, its limitations and sources.

SEARCHERS SALUTE
There is no way to adequately thank the many individuals who provide us with new information on various EV/EB individuals, but we certainly do appreciate them. This issue our belated but sincere thanks go to:

USEFUL LINKS
A number of items appearing in the E162 News are updated periodically. These include items such as the current contents of the E162 Library, New Users Guide, Names and addresses of where major source documents can be obtained, etc. Rather than reprinting the updated items in later issues of the E162 News we will keep the latest versions of such items on separate pages with links to them appearing on the Useful Links Page. along with the dates of the latest updates.

There are also a number of links to other websites that may be of interest to you as an EV/EB family researcher.
