RESEARCH TO BE DONE TO PROVE from Patricia Littlefield:
"One of the individuals interested in the family's history besides Aunt
May (Ettie May Allen Stratton) was her daughter,Gladys Stratton Whitman, who was a professor at the
University of Connecticut at Hartford. Gladys was the keeper of the family
records from about the late 1940's until her nephew, Allen Lehr Stratton took
them over in 1962. Allen had just recieved a million dollars from the A&P
company for his store. He took his money and bought a resort on North Hero
Island, Vermont, which he operated until his death in 1983.
Allen was Princeton-educated and vitally interested in history. He not
only carefully went back over thefamily's records, but ended up writing
histories of each of the Vermont Islands that are masterpieces of accuracy
and detail. All of them contain much genealogical detail and give such clear
and vivid pictures of what the people were like and how they lived. I really
goofed on the causes of death of two of my cousins just in a casual
conversation. I really got told off for my carelessness which made me
respect him even more."

I feel quite sure that both Allen and Gladys probably used the NEGHS for
some of their reseach, and Allen traveled a lot in Vermont and Massachusetts
hunting ancestors. He never mentioned if he had used any primary sources
from Massachusetts for the Tobeys, and I feel sure if there was a Family
Bible that contained the information we two are wondering about, he would
have told me.
