Hi-
I saw your posting at Ancestry.com today on Worthy and Joseph Lewallen.
I am a descendant of Joseph--he is my ggggggrandfather. My information
shows he was born in 1763, Randolph County, North Carolina to a devoutly
Quaker family. Joseph was the son of William Lewallen, born 1724, and
Mary Dawson, born 1740. William died in 1799. There is an
unsubstantiated story that William was the son of Meshach, who with his
brothers Shadrach and Abednego emigrated from Wales early in the
1700's. In recent weeks I've discovered fascinating information about
Joseph's brother, another Meshach and his involvment in the Quaker
community in North Carolina. I would be happy to point you to that
information if it would be of interest to you. I hope to visit NC in
the near future to research Quaker records of the 1700's, which I'm told
are very thorough.

Joseph moved from NC to Pendleton, South Carolina and then to Georgia
around 1803. He married (aged 79) in 1842 to Elizabeth Watkins (aged
29). Sometime after 1850, it seems he left GA and moved to Indiana
where an older son and his brothers had settled, leaving NC in a protest
over slavery.

I wonder if you might be able to help me with the following: Joseph
had two sons: Jonathan and John. I'm not quite sure which is in my line
because the names were often interchangable and family Bible records
list him both ways--born 1795 in South Carolina. Whichever it was, he
was married to Amelia Jackson (his marriage certificate reads John).
His (and Amelia's) oldest son was named John Jackson. Another son was
named Worthy.

If you have any further information that you would be willing to share,
including where you found your information, I would be most grateful.

Thank you,
Dennis Lewallen
