I have found your Gilley information on the Internet, and wondered if you
have found any information on Lucinda (Lucy) Gilley who was born 20 July
1797 in VA, and was married in Henry County, VA in 1816 to John Bundrant.
By 1830 they were living in Warren (present day Cannon) County, TN
before moving to Wayne County, TN by 1850. Between 1860-70 Lucy moved to
Fayette County, TX, and died in Coryell County, TX 19 September 1882. I
have been unable to find any information on her family.

Think that I have lots of stuff for you.

Russell Elmore LANIER the first married Lucy DOPSON.

RE Lanier #I’s father Pinkney and mother Mary F. Plant were married
(according to the records in the court house) in Madison County, FL 8
Nov 1885. Mary was born 16 Feb 1867, the daughter of John G. (maybe C.)
Plant (born 1816 in SC) and Frances (born 1831 in GA). This materal was
found in the 1870 Madison County census index on page 109. At this
point I have nothing further back on the PLANT side of your family.

Pinkney Kirkland LANIER was the son of David S. LANIER and Filista L.
HALE. David and Filista were married in Madison County, FL on 8 April
1856. In 1860 David and Filista were listed on page 233 of the Madison
County census. In 1870 they were listed on page 061. In the 1870
census they showed the following seven children: Columbus, 13 (was 3 in
1860); Estell 12, (was Estelle and 2 in 1860); Dennett 10; Ida M.
8; Pinkney 6; Virginia 4; and Fannie 1. This materal was found in
the 1870 Madison County census index on page 61. Sally LANIER
(probably David S.’s mother) who was listed as 65 years of age in the
1860 census was not listed in the 1870 census. This women probably
either died or remarried and was in another household. I HAVE NOT
CHECKED THE MARRIAGE RECORDS FOR THIS INFORMATION YET.

Please clarify a couple of things. You stated that Pinkney had a
brother David and sisters Tammie, Virginia and Eunis. Were these four
children all born after 1870? I have not yet looked at the 1880
census. Is Tammie and Fannie the same person?
So now you know Pinkney’s parents and you also know several other
cousins.

So far I have obits on Russell Elmore Lanier (died 1941) and David
Lanier (died 1967).

When Pinkney died in 1941 this is how his will read:
survivers
Mary F. LANIER, 75, Madison, wife
Mrs J. H. OWENS, 56, Madison, daughter
David LANIER, 40, Madison, son
P. K. LANIER, Jr, 38 Madison, son
Miss Amelia LANIER, 30, Madison, daughter
R. E. LANIER, Jr, 15 Madison, grandson
W. R. PITMAN, 23, Ft Benning, GA, grandson
Kirk Pitman, 21, Postmaster, NYC. grandson
Mary Eunice Pitman, 19, Deland, FL, granddaughter

When Mary died in 1945 this is how her will read:
survivers
Lydia L. OWENS, 57, Madison, daughter
David LANIER, 44, Madison, son
P. K. LANIER, 42, Madison, son
Amelia L. WILLIAMS, 33, Montgomery, AL, daughter
R. E. LANIER, Jr, 19, Montgomery, AL, grandson
Mary Eunice PITTMAN, 22, Madison, FL, granddaughter
William R. PITTMAN, 26, Madison, FL, grandson
P. K. PITTMAN, 24, Madison, FL, grandson

Please check and clarify. Thank you, Elmer Spear

After I sent the email I discovered that I had cut the message off.
Here is the rest of my message:

Also worked up a query for you to run in the next newsletter of the
Madison County Genealogy Society - to be released in October 1999.
Please review and if ok tell me so and I will insert in in the next
issue.
.
I am looking for information about my Lanier ancestors that lived in
Madison County around the turn of the century. Pinkney Kirkland Lanier
born 27 July 1864, died 11 December 1941 amd his wife Mary V. Plant
Lanier born 16 February 1867 and died 10 August 1945. Their issue were
Estell, Russell Elmore, David, Pinkney Kirkland, Jr, Amellia, and
Lidge. Pinkney and Mary are both interred at Pineview Cemetery.
Pinkney had a brother David (an attorney in Madison) and sisters named
Tammie, Virginia, and Eunis. Their son Russell Elmore was born on 14
November 1895 and he died on 26 July 1941. He also is interred at
Pineview Cemetery. Russell Elmore married Lucy Pauline Dopson who
died in 1993.
Russell and Lucy’s son, Russell Elmore Lanier II married Mattie Ruth
Lindsey and these are my parents. I would appreciate any help you can
give me in learning more about my ancestors. Thanks you.
