Thank you for your message.

The younger Enoch E. Mizell, son of Joseph, is the person who first served in Co. B, 7th Fla. Infantry and later in the Cow Cavalry.

He is the same Enoch E Mizell who is buried at Socrum Cemetery. I have a ggg grandfather who is buried at Socrum, --Stephen Hollingsworth.

Wells, William (b. 16 AUG 1798, d. ?)

Note: In 1818, William obtained 25 acres in Rutherford County and in the 1820
census it shows he lived near his mother Sarah Wells who was over 45 years
old and living with her children. Charles had gone to Missouri so Sarah
was head of the household. In 1824 Williams was surety for the marriage of
John Tabor to Unice Bullard in rutherford County. Possibly some relation
of William's wife. William was married as "his wife died" and his infant
son, William Wells, was taken by grandmother Sarah Wells to rear. I have no

Wells, Charles (b. 16 MAR 1773, d. 10 OCT 1836)

Note: An 1808 deed says they were "moving to Tennessee" so they sold the Franklin
County land to Sarah's mother. Charles shows up in rutherford County to
about 1815 and then went to Missouri. "where he stayed for 10 years" (a
quotation attributed to an old neighbor according to a Mrs. Isbell who
provided this information many years ago to Florence Montgomery.).

Charles built the first house in Montgomery County, Missouri but couldn't
get Sarah to move to such a "primitive home". She moved back to her mother
in Georgia and Chalres sold the house in Missouri and returned to Georgia
to live in Habersham County. He acted as attorney for Mary Lewis, mother

Dear Montgomery,

Here I go again. First let me correct my error as to Prince George, I did not mean Pince George but Prince William. That was carelessness. Then let me correct my error, which was pure laziness (just did not want to get up and go through my data) as to Joseph Wells being the one that carried Samuel Wells' two youngest children and sister to Samuel in Ky. It was not Joseph but Carty and Carty of Pr. Wm.

Yes, I have a Joseph of Prince Geo. Md. and a thomas then some Josephs in Farifax, VA. the Quaker Josephw (somehow, I don't know where I got the idea, for I was not too concerned about that Joseph, but somehow thought he was the one who mar. so many times, but I think Thomas had multiple marriages also). Then Joseph, headright in Westmoreland Co., Va. 1663 (that is all I have of him there. He might not have moved here. And other Joseph's but the one in Prince Wm. was the one I was interested in as he named a son Peyton. This is the one tradition says mar. 4 times. I tried to get service record for Joseph Wells and it came back, application made but died in Miss. (or maybe that was Mo. don't want to look it up. but I am still trying Much of the work at the Archives is done by black faces & I tried for years before I got Charles and I shall keep agrivating them unless they get to where they will not.

I looked up Charles Wells pension (you'll think I am crazy and I am, but which box of papers I have mistakingly put it I do not know but if I do not I shall order again. But according to what I had made notes from it (if I quoted correctly) "in my infancey my parents moved to Bear Grass Ky." After looking at this again I said Samuel's wife was living and that perhaps she took her boy with her but left the two other children (maybe on acct of school or just thought it best) with Carty Wells.

Yes there was a sister Elizabeth and others working on this group in Ky. think two other girls. I had found in Wells folder in my search in Frankfort, Ky. The item above was about Samuel Wells arriving at North Fork Licking 1776 -- then thsi stated a little later Carty Wells of Prince Wm. Co. Va., son of Capt. Samuel (thus brother to Sam. Jr.) brought Capt. Samuel Wells's two "younger" sons and their sister Elizabeth to Capt. Sam. Wells and also brought his own young family and they, Samuel, and servants built the Wells Fort.

Than I began searching for sister Elizabeth and found she entered Catholic Convent Dec. 1, 1814, whom they called Sister Betsy. I kept hunting until I found the right Convent and they said at that time they did not keep very complete records but she quoted me from the Catholic Centunary stated she retired from the "community" meaning of course their Convent, two years later. "Elizabeth, or as she is generally called Betsy, was a sister of General Wells of Jefferson Co., and Capt. Wells (Sometimes Samuel was referred to as Gen. but most times Col. and Wm. was Capt.) She said until her death she was devoted to religion (commentary above could mean she sent with Sam to Mo.)

Why didn't Charles join something so I could find him. I cannot tell you how I worked finding Bear Grass. I wrote every one in Ky. post master to Co. officials and no one knew anything about Bear Grass. I ordered all the books I could get from Ky. & finally got a lead and description. Have a little notation where some one in will gave same a prayer book. What denomination?

These two Samuels had thousands of acres of land. I tried to find from deeds in Ky. hoping to find where he mentioned Charles. No mention that I could find, but Chas. was barely 21 when he came to Ga. I have recently been told there were some court proceedings about the settlement. If I had a lawyer or could afford a genealogist. But I really believe, like Daniel Boone and others, he lost all the land in the second survey.

It seems to me Chas. just has to belong to Samuel, but I am still not satisfied. Others put him under Haden. But Haden moved to Tenn. after 3 or 4 years at Bear Grass. I did find in Franklin Co., Ky. folder if you do not have this -- Yelverton Peyton Wells mar. Rebecca Prince 8-18-1794. Carty Wells d. Shelby Co. 1812.

Now back to Joseph Wells of Tyrone Township -- (same as Samuel) tax 1772 -- not on 1785-86 list. Maybe he owned land in Pr. Wm. & Tyrone.
1800 census shows Joseph b: 1755 age 74 with wife and 3 ch.
1810 census shows Joseph b: 1755 age 84 2ith wife and 4 ch. (what a man. or maybe one came home)
1779 in Ky. Joseph and George (was he a brother and could he be the one that was later Gov. of Ga and maybe that accounts for a Joseph in Ga. 1812 list). This note however said this George stayed in Ky. and had son Peyton and one named Carty -- Spencer Co., Ky.

The more I look at these the more confused I become. At Frankfort, Ky. in the list of soldiers were - Joseph, Benj., John, Edward, Francis, James, Micajah, Samuel, B(L?)evi, Yelverton, Solomon, Wm. Yelverton Peyton Wells.

If I ever get war records, maybe I can figure some of these out.
