Chris,
Hi this is Joyce Rogers, we have taoked in the past about the Gilley line.
I have found where Charles Jr married Susannah Cavender in 1846. Have you seen this information?
William J. Cavender is her son by another marriage.
So she would not be the mother of his children up to 1846.
Were you aware of this?

Joyce

Chris,
First I found a marriage record for a Charles Giley and Susannah Cavender in
Paulding County, Georgia on November3,1846. This started me looking for
a Charles on the 1850 census with wife Susannah the only one was Charles
Jr. On the 1850 census I found Charles, wife Susannah and a son named
William Cavender. This must be a a son by another marriage.
There are several Cavender lines in the area on the 1840 census and believe
one to be her first husband. So, now we have to find Charles' first wife.
Also on the 1850 Census for Paulding County I found a Moses Ayers, wife
Mahala and son William T. Gilley. Is Mahala the wife of George W. Gilley? I
think so??
Next door to them is Nancy Gilley Davis and next to her is Willis Gilley and
family

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
I, too, have heard that Grant maybe wife of Charles Sr. But can not find
anything to prove it. A researcher in Oklahoma, sent me an email and said
they had been to the Archive and found some information.
Applications of Mollie, Jerr, Andrew and Jordan, Jr. They gpt copies of
Mollie and Jordan only.
Both Mollie and Jordan list Jordan Sr and Margaret Hill. For Paternal
Grandparents is the problem.
Jordan list Charles and Patsy Grant. Mollie list William B. and Matildy
Gilley nee Jordan. ??? So the problem.
Have you heard about this? I wish I had excess to the Guion Miller Rolls to
look for myself. I believe Wallace State is the only library in this area
where they are on file.
If is the last name for Matilda that Pasty and her are Not sisters the way
we have always thought.
Terrell Voyles is who sent me the info. I have sent several emails back but
no answer.
Also, he said he had recieved info from " History of the Gilley Family" that
was even more confusing.

Write soon,
Joyce

Chris - Did your Gilley's come from the Virginia/North Carolina Area?
My Gillum Hopper lived with his Uncle Charles Gilley sometime from 1778-1799
in the Va/NC Area
Do you have any information on this Charles Gilley?

Thank you

CGTanner- I think we have a connection!!!! My Gillium Hopper was born in
1776 in
the henry Co, Va area. In Moses Edwards/ Moses Hopper pension file it
states that
Gillium Hopper lived with his Uncle Charlie Gilley. And it was probably in
henry Co VA.
Gillium met his wife and lived in in 1798 in NC. Moses moved on down to SC
I need to look up where again. yes I would love to have some of the Gilley
history that relates back the 1770 -1800 time period. How many brothers and
sisters did Charlie Gilley have?? My Gillium may be named for his uncle
Charles "Gilley" as they called him Gilley as a child. Anxious to hear
from you.

Christopher,

Thank you for your reply. Did I say I wasn't sure if Francis Sr. was the father of Charles Sr.
If did I did not mean to. I have proof that Charles Sr. IS Francis's eldest child.
I do not have the book # but did write down the Pg # -- 315 & 316

Dated: 28 Nov. 1791 ----- Proven: 28 Nov 1791
Charles Gilley of Henry County, son and heir of Francis Gilley, deceased TO William Mitchell of Patrick County, Virginia.
Francis Gilley in his lifetime sold George Hairston land on the south side of Smith River and said Hairston sold the land to William Mitchel. Francis Gilley died without conveying a deed to either Hairston or Mitchell and therefore Charles Gilley being the eldest son and in consideration of Two Hundred pounds paid by the said William Mitchell conveys this 250 acre tract which is located on the south side of Smith River and being at the mouth of Turkey Cock Creek.
Said land was formerly the property of Merry Webb and by his survey 250 acers.

Wit: Charles Gilley

Elizabeth Gilley, wife of Charles Gilley releases her right of dower.

Is this good enough proof ? I have not worked to much with this Francis Gilley line, I collect any and all Gilley information that I find. I have always felt that if it wasn't my line, somebody else might be able to use it. Do you have any records from Cannon Co.? If not I will be glad to share mine with you.

I am very new to computer genealogy and do not have my files on it yet. I have been researching the Gilley's for 20 years or more so you can see there's alot to enter.

Yes I am very interested in Charles Sr. and would appreciate any information you care to share with me. I will definitely share my line and any other information that I have.

At this time I guess we will have to exchange by snail mail, sorry I don't have mine where I could sent with the computer. I have some of my Gilley line on F T M, I can snail mail it to you.

In answer to your questions- See below

>
>Where were they living? ****Henry County, Va as far as I know He has been
hard to track, but Henry Co keeps popping up. Gillum was indentured to a
man named Mathew Peggs (a tavern Keeper) in 1782. We are not for sure how
long he stayed with this man. But about 5 years later we find thru info on
Moses Hopper/Edwards service papers that he stayed with his Uncle Charlie
Gilley.
>
>Where in North Carolina was Gillum located? ***** Guiford/ Area
>
>Is Gillum Hopper the son of the Moses Hopper? He is the brother to Moses
Hopper alias Moses Edwards,
also possible brother to Rolley(sp).
>
>Is it possible that Charles was married to a Hopper? ***yes, although we do
not know any names.
We are searching for Gillum and Moses's parents.

Thanks for helping and I hope to find something out for both of us.

Suzi
