Hey, Alton, Bill, Christopher and Sandy: I have just received a copy of Ellerzine's obituary from the Grapevine Sun. It is dated March 28, 1940. It reads:
Mrs. Ellerzine U. Tanner Dies
Mrs. Ellerzine Urelia Tanner, age 79, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Kelley, in Conroe Texas at 12:15 pm Tuesday March 19th. Funeral services were held at the Dove Baptist Church at 2:30 pm Thursday, with Rev. W. H. Day of Waxahachie officiating. Interment was in the Grapevine Cemetery.
Mrs. Tanner had lived in Grapevine for 30 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Kelley (Eurelia) of Conroe and Mrs. Jose Whitley (twin of Joe Tanner), Cumby; five sons: Lawrence and Tom Tanner of Fort Worth, Joe Tanner of Grapevine, Gaines Tanner of Dallas, Henry Tanner of McKinney and Chandler Tanner; one sister, Mrs. Callie McCall of Portales NM and 22 grandchildren......end....
Okay, Henry Tanner of McKinney? and who in the world is Chandler Tanner??????? You will notice Uncle Reb (Rebue) was not mentioned. Possibly already dead. The cemetery has RW Tanner dying 1937, so it's possible. Also, since it lists Gaines, I presume he was still alive at this point.
Re: Waxahachie: My cousin, Alton (Lawrence's son) said his father was born in Waxahachie, which is in Ellis County.
I also received the obit for Nola...died August 22 1920 at a sanitarium in Greenville after appendectomy. It says she leaves a mother (Ellerzine) "who lives at Tyler", a brother, Joe Tanner, "living at this place", and four other brothers. I don't think Tyler Texas is in the same counties we've been concentrating on (Tarrant and Ellis). It does not mention Warren, or which other brothers, only that they "live elsewhere". The obit is in the paper dated August 28, 1920.
A charming young lady by the name Gina, who has Tanner roots, volunteered to get these for me and I am soooooooooooooo grateful to her. This is a lot of information.
Alton, this does NOT let you off the hook for looking for stuff!!!!!!
Let me hear from ya
Joanne

Thomas' death certificate notes that he was never married but Joanne Ninesling's notes give a marriage for Thomas to a "Mayflower".
