These are definitely my "folks"! I'm really not the geneology person in the family. My mother and her sisters have gotten really skilled at the search for the McQuaig side of the family. (She's on her way to Scotland next week!) My Aunt Lucille has done some of the work on the Platts, at least she did several years ago. I'm not sure what she's done lately. I'll check on an e-mail addressfor her, but also I'll send her the info you provided and see if she can pull out her info. I'm certain she has better dates than I do.
You asked about Ft. Myers vs Hillsborough. I remember from stories about my grandfather that he and my grandmother met in the Riverview area. He spent time all along the west coast of Florida before he and my grandmother settled in Plant City. I'm not sure if my father and his siblings were born in PC, but they all went to Plant City High School and lived on Franklin Street growing up. My grandfather owned his own metal fabrication shop in PC until he retired. He and my grandmother moved to Tampa and lived there until they both died. My grandmother died in 1997, after living several years in the "Baptist Towers" next door to the First Baptist Church of Tampa.
Interestingly enough, all my grandparents (McQuaigs and Platts) are all buried in Plant City. Baby Grayson, my Aunt Lucille's first child was already buried there so my grandfather was placed there and my grandmother later. My McQuaig grandparents had already passed away by 1973, but are buried close-by. I'm not certain of the cemetary name, but it is just off I-4 on Hwy 39 heading out of Plant City. My father is buried in Lakeland not too far from the new Polk County Expressway, on Hwy 98 heading toward Bartow.
Again, I'm not really the researcher in the family, but I love to hear all of this. It's so interesting to make all these connections. I would enjoy getting your newsletter and finding out about your continued search. Also, I plan to share it with my mother and her sisters as they have really gotten interested in the McQuaig family history.
I've attached a document for you to look at with all my Platt info. Obviously the ones I know the best are my own family members, but maybe it will help you on your search. Also, I will ask my Aunt Lucille to provide any info she has.
Let me know if I can help further.

Christopher--
You are most welcome for the info. I hope it helps you with your search.
Yes, my grandmother was married prior to marrying my grandfather. I'm not certain of all the details, but she was a care giver to the elderly when she met my grandfather in Riverview. She had separated (maybe divorced already) from her husband when she came to live with my grandfather's family to help take care of his mother.
Also, you asked about my father. My father lived in Lakeland from the mid-80's until his death in 1998. My brother Riley also lived in Lakeland until about 2 yrs ago, but now is back in Plant City, along with my mother and Randy & his family. I'm the "black sheep" living in the Charleston, SC area.
Good luck with all this, and let me know if I can help you in any way.
Rachel

Christopher, I visited with Neat Platt (wife of Lee Andrew Platt) a few times in the early 1990's (she died in 1994) in Ocala. She told us a little about Ola Tuten. But didn't know a middle name. I think Betty has Ola R. Tooten or Ola Randall Tuten posted somewhere on one of the genealogy sites. That's where I got the Randall from. It made sense as she named one of her boys Randall. I had thought Randall might have been Ola's mother's maiden name too? But haven't been able to find out anything about Ola or her parents. Betty emailed me a photocopy of the orphanage documents and under maiden name it is written "Ola Tuten" so Ola Tuten is all I know for sure. I can't back up the R or Randall with anything. Unfortunately, I know nothing about Hammond. Ralph

Hi Christopher my name is Mary Louise (Roberts)
Varnadore
I am so glad to here from you. For you have a lot of
interesting things about my family. I lived with my
G-Parents John Melton Platt and Lorena Lavetta
(MaCall) Bailey Platt. There's one thing wrong in your
info I know that it's not your fault, But John M.
Platt died November 20, (1976) Honey I know because I
was there. He died of Lung Cancer from smoking I
helped take care of him. If you could help me get that
fixed it will be greatly appreciated. Granny died
exactly 14 years to the day that Grand Daddy died.
Isn't that something. Please let me know something
about what you need so I can get back to ya

First of all how old are you. I'm 39 birthday November

I was named after my Mother Mary Louise Platt she
thought I was going to be a boy, didn't have a girl
name picked so her doctor told her to name me after
her. OK lets see
I think the head stone on granddaddy right, let me I
was there both and as far as i can remember it says
1976 because nobody griped about it being wrong, but I
will make sure. Granddaddy was married to a Frances
Lyles. There were no children. I didn't know G-dad was
married before until I started doing this, and then
Mom told me I guess she figured I would get upset.
tell you the story later. Grannies maiden name is
MaCall. She married a man named Lonnie Bailey from
Mayo Florida they had 3 children Burbage Deleon Bailey

Hi it's me
The pictures, the one that you have labeled Samuel
Platt, wife and son? let's see, That will be Thomas
Sydney Platt Sara Jane Davis and Hancel Drew Platt It
was cut and croped to have just Thomas and Sara on it
then it was put on the cover of a very short book for
us at a reunion. I made sure I got one and kept it.I
was around 22 years old. I desided to start this about
2 years ago. When I was 34 I had a Heart Attack and
felt that my daughter had no idea about my family and
I wanted her to know. Then everyone found out what I
was I doing next thing I knew everyone wants me to do
a book for the reunion, we had one last year in March
and I got some information from people and really went
with it. Let me give you some of these people we'll
start with the oldest Ramond Brack Platt B-11-28-1936
I was born on his B-Day. D-8-15-1988, Sara Julia Ann
Platt Rinaldi B-7-8-1938 Still Alive. Samuel Reed
Platt B-9-24-1939 D-1-24-1940. Mary Louise Platt
Roberts Stark B-1-10-1941 Still Alive. Thomas Doyle
Platt B-12-28-1941 D-8-15-1995. Glydal Virginia Platt
Mispel B-2-22-1943 and last Johnett Platt B-2-11-1948
D-2-13-1972. Ok Thats all the children of John Melton
Platt and Lorena Lavetta McCall Bailey Platt. I Live
in Lancaster Co. Lancaster, South Carolina, But
I started out in Florida moved to Georgia lived there
for 12 years. Then moved to SC. The reunion I went to
was in Arcadia Florida at the KOA Camp Ground thats
where I got my book. But we had a small one last year
at Thomas Doyle Platt's Jr house in Crawfordville
Florida it was just Granddaddy and Grannies children
there's only three Girls left but a lot of grands it
was fun. My baby Brother lives in Saint Cloud. But the
rest live in Waycross Georgia lot far from that
Florida line. John Melton Platt and Hancel Drew Platt
I guess lived in Arcadia for a long as I can remember.
When G-Daddy died there was like 2 Funerals one in
Arcadia and one in Mayo, Florida there him and Granny
had Burial Plots in Bethal Cemetery I think. I know I
just dont don't have it right here with me. I have to
tell you this. I remember it was like one of my first
memories I guess I was real little like three years
old I remember going to G-Daddies house and I had on
my Paten Leather Black Shoes and my little dress, G-
Daddy would be taken a nap before he went to work. He
worked at G-Pierce Wood State Hospital. I remember
sneaking into the bedroom and taking off my shoes and
sneaking onto the bed real slow next to G-Daddy and
the next thing I knew I would wake up and he'd be
gone to work. My Mom said thats the only way she could
get me to take a nap. We would all go to grannies and
I would get in the bed then she would take Cindy and
Idell back to the house for their nap. Then when woke
up she would come and get me. Mom always lived close
to Ganny as long as I can remember.
send you more later.
