I am interested in the marriage of AaronCornelius to Sarah Luvena Nobels of
Blount County, AL on Dec. 30, 1864. I have them in Bowie Co, TX having a
child Bluford in 1881.From the ALBLOUNT newsgroup I have found Sarah Nobels
parents as Russell and Elizabeth Lowe Nobles. What I need to find is a death
location for Aaron and Sarah. This Aaron I have as the son of Jefferson
Harvey Cornelius who married Rosamond Williams : Aaron,Rachel, Nancy,
Mahala,E.J., Luganna( which I believe to be Susanna based on orthographic
evidence from original census film), Allen, Elinor Belle, R. (initial only
of son in 1880 Census TX), E.J.(daughter initial only 1880 US Census in
Bowie, TX), Adolph and Sis. The names Adolph, Sis, Allen were given to me my
great aunt Ola who knew them , but didn't know where they moved after they
grew up.

Can you give me any further help?
Gratefully,

I am trying to untangle the numerous Aaron Cornleius children in my family
tree. Could you help by telling me how you ascertained that Aaron Clay
Cornelius was the son of Zion Cornleius and not the son of either John
Cornelius or Jefferson Harvey Cornelius?

I have found an Aaron Cornelius and wife Sarah Luvena Nobel in Bowie Co,TX
having child Bluford Cornelius in March of 1881 in the courthouse records in
New Boston. Went there and saw it. Another WFT researcher says the name of
this Aaron is Aaron Clay Cornelius born on February 28,1842 to Jefferson
Harvey Cornelius, who lived in Bowie Co,TX at that time, but not Zion or
John Cornelius.I have written twice with no response to this researcher, and
am trying to be accurate in my own work.

If you could please help me, I would be deeply greatful. In addition, I can
give you the full name of Jefferson Harvey Cornelius' wife , Rosamond
Williams married inBlount Co, on January 21,1841, Recorded Book C 1838-1844
Blount Co.AL p. 862.Bondsmen Jefferson H. Cornelius and William
Blackwood. They moved to Cherokee Co, TX and are listed in the 1870 US Census
and then moved to Bowie Co, TX and are listed in the 1880 US Census in town
of Redwater ,TX They had additional children for whom I don't have birth
documentation, except for my great grandmother Elinor Belle Cornelius born
in October 1861 and died on April 1,1919 in Keltys, TX (Angelina Co) She was
the widow of Eugene Valentine Gates who died in April,1910 in a hunting
accident.

Thanks,

Chris,
That marriage is one of my stumbling blocks. Here is what I have. I agree
that Zion Cornelius had a son who lived in Blount and had wife Sarah Nobels,
probably daughter of Rebecca Nobels on the Whatley web site? However, in the
Bowie County Courthouse , Bowie County TX there is a birth notation of the
following: ( I was there this summer and hand copied it). Born to Sarah
Noble and Aaron Cornelius on March 27,1881 Bluford Cornelius.

On the US Census of Bowie County for 1900 there is the following family
listed:

Head of Household:
J.A. Cornelius WM born February 1842 ( same month and year as the Aaron
Cornelius son of JeffersonHarvey Cornelius listed in 1850 Blount). Age 58
AL,AL,AL Precinct 1, All of Redwater south of TPRR on June 13, 1900.
District 1, EN 2, Sheet 30.

Sarah June 1849 married for 35 years

J.A. or H.(very faint) Jan 1879 TX ( Cathy Fowler says it's an H.)
Bluford March 1881 TX
Artie or Urtie (unclear) male March 1883 (there is an Arthur Cornelius
listed in marriages book)
R.E. (son) December 1886 TX
___trude (daughter) March 1890

I have the direct descendant of this family wtih whom I am in touch. in
Bowie County. There is a published WFT for the Jefferson-Rosamond to Aaron
line that gave Noble as the wife of Aaron and an Arkansas birthplace. I
think these are two different Sarahs from the one Zion's son married. This
Sarah is supposedly Luvena per the WFT file . I have written the lady in
Utah twice, but she does not reply for some reason. The Blount County index
doesn't give Sarah's middle name and I can't find it listed anywhere but in
this WFT file done by the Utah lady. I need to get the death certificate of
her relation from LA to prove thename.

What I believe is that Jefferson Harvey and Rosamond Cornelius named their
first son Jefferson Aaron and called him Aaron. About the same time Zion
Cornelius named his son Aaron and one other Cornelius had an Aaron as well.
Zion's son lived in Blount his whole life and ran a store according to
someone on the Cornelius-L who answered me (I'll have to check, but he
stayed in Blount for sure). He married a Sarah Nobels in 1860something per
Blount marriage book.

Jeffeson Harvey and Rosamond went to TX landing first in Cherokee in 1870. I
can't find them in 1860 and they weren't in Blount. I've tried AL, LA, TX
and all bordering states and nothing shows in the indices i can find,
including the one Jefferson in IL (not him, I had a lookup done). According
to my correspondent Mrs. Fowler, the family came in through Miller County
Arkansas which would match the Arkansas birthplace of my Sarah Luvena Noble
listed in the other WFT.

Further, I have a quit claim deed recording inBowie Co Cthouse for
J.H.Cornelius to land of Aaron Cornelius deceased to WK. Cameron dated
December 14, 1912 in Book 61, page 573. The original Aaron deed is missing
since the courthouse burned in 1889. There is a title search company in
Texarkana that has some of the old copies of deed books on file, but it is
about 50.00 hour to use their stuff and one has to be a lawyer per ladies in
courthouse. I am not that rich (just a teacher).

Right now, I need a look up on the A.J. Cornelius listed in the 1860 US
Census of Ellis County, TX on page 41 for an A J. Cornelius household on the
off chance that it is the Jefferson son Aaron since he isn't listed with
Jefferson and Rosamond in 1870 in Cherokee and may be in Ellis county
instead. ( Under the no stone unturned law.)

Also in Bowie Courthouse is listed AaronCornelius ( buyer grantee index)
from E.E. Kayden et. al. on December 9,1892 recorded January 12, 1893 in
vol. 9 page 556 for $240.00 80 acres of land.

I'm pretty sure that this Aaron lived in Bowie County until he died around
1900, a date also given by the Utah lady in her WFT. I have marriages
inBowie for an Arthur, J.H., Robert, Samuel, Russell Abner, William Rufus,
Henry C. and I am still trying to match everyone up.

This whole crew is buried near Redwater, TX along FM. Road 2148 in a
cemetery near lakeview Baptist Church with the exception of Rosamond and
Jefferson Cornelius. I have interment years and so on. All this was done
last summer when I drove out from Baltimore, doing Blount Co along the way.
I still need to come back this summer now that Iknow what I am looking for.
Hopefully, my AL sister from Auburn will travel with me.Another school
teacher, she isa courthouse expert having worked in title research for a
number of years.

All of this is clear as mud no doubt. I have ordered an update for my WFT
and it should be here shortly. Then I will be in business to read your file
and send youmine.

I hope this helps you some. Barb inBaltimore

Dear Chris,
I'm off to church momentarily but forgot to mention that Zion CORNELIUS son
is named Aaron Clay Cornelius. In 1180 US Census of Blount his mom Elizabeth
Reid ( second marriage after Zion's death) is living in the same household.

Do you have access to the US Census of 1880 for TX? I need you to look up
the household of Aaron CORNELIUS liste ED1, 019 for Bowie County They lived
near Redwater or Corley. That may be the household of Jefferson Harvey's
son Aaron. I found J.H. and his wife Rosamond and my other line (Gates ) and
never took notes on the Aaron household because I had the WFT file from the
Sorenson woman that now appears to be wrong or at the very least carelessly
done.

Now, of course, I regret that error and this week I can't go to DC. My
annual teacher observation (third one actually) is this week and I must work
on my "horse and pony show" for the administrators.

Here is the summary of Cathy Fowler's work. She is direct descendant of
Harvey Jefferson Cornelius , probably the son of Aaron Cornelius.

Jefferson Harvey Cornelius married twice:

Marriage 1. Belle Daniels 3 Feb 1891 in Texarkana TX.

Marriage 2. Martha Alice Blackwell Emerson (first marriage for her to an
Emerson).March 22, 1898 in Boston, TX

Children to his first marriage existed, but Cathy doesn't know them.

Offspring from this combined family; Cathy doesn't know who is whose except
for the Dessie Emerson.

Martha Alice Cornelius born 2/20/1919 per Bowie Courthouse
Jim Neal Cornelius born 4/29/1913 per Bowie Courthouse
Russell Cornelius date unknown; died young allegedly poisoned by
ife.( There is a Russell Abner Cornelius married to a Barbara Ellen Moore
giving birth to daughter Annie Belle listed in Bowie County Cthouse; I think
this is he.)
Dessie Emerson ( Matha Alice's by first marriage; date unknown)
Tom Blueford Cornelius born 1902 and died in 1982. Father of Cathy Fowler
Harvey Cornelius
Ella Mae Cornelius born April 2, 1911 per Bowie Courthouse.
Fred Cornelius

Cathy also says that Harvey Jefferson Cornelius, her grandfather , had a
brother named Bluford, whose birth to Sarah Noble and Aaron Cornelius is
recorded in the Bowie County Courthouse.( I sent you that).Bluford married a
Maggie and they had no children. Cathy remembers them.

Martha Alice Cornelius married a Moye and was alive last year but not well ;
in Texarkana. I wrote to all in phone book but no one answered my letters.

Name of cemetery where most of these folk were buried is the Eylau Methodist
Cemetery.

Must go I'm reader at church today.

Dear Chris,
the Bowie County courthouse birth record book lists exactly the
ollowing( saw it with my own eyes feeble though they be):

Bluford Cornelius March 27,1881 born to Aaron Cornelius and Sarah Noble
(spelled this way).

In 1870 in Cherokee County Census, Jacksonville District where J.H.
Cornelius and wife Rosamond are found there is no Aaron Cornelius still at
home. As you know, I cannot find J.H. Cornelius and Rosamond Williams
Cornelius in 1860 anywhere. I find them next in Redwater, Bowie County , TX
in teh 1880 US Census. Son Aaron is listed in the 1850 US Census of Blount
County in his parents household and I have been unable to find him until the
1900 US Census of Bowie Co, TX when I believe him to be listed as J.A
Cornelius with wife Sarah (birthplace notations are nearly illegible so I
didn't copy them, could only make out A--, but I think Ark or Al, not much
help.)

AaronCornelius married Sarah Nobels on December 30,1864 in Blount Co. AL.
Courthouse records list:Aaron Cornelius and Allen F. Williams, bondsomen,
page 307, Book E 1861-1866.

(My note here. Allen F. Williams is either the probable father of Rosamond
Williams wife of Jefferson Harvey Cornelius or his son who was also named
Allen F.Williams)

The Aaron Clay Cornelius came from two sources: 1. the Cornelius WFT ( the
author is the descendant of Rosa Arminta Cornelius, a daughter of the Bowie
County Aaron Cornelius). She even has Jefferson Harvey listed as Harvey
Jefferson, so there are major errors. I have another source that I can't
find right off hand, but it may be Vikki Highfield or the Whaley line. I
don't have time to look farther right now.

I think we have two different Nobles here: one born in Arkansas or Alabama
and one born in Georgia.Spellings are different, which I have noticed from
the gitgo.Your 1880 Blount confirms the differences in birth places. The
1880 Blount children aren't even a close match to the 1900 list I sent for
J. A. Cornelius (probably Aaron).

Buried in Eylau Methodist Cemetery outside Redwater, TX near Texarkana, TX:

Angela Kay 1958-1958
Bluford 1881-1966
Freddie Ray, Sr. no dates
Gleneva 1916-1970
Harvey J. no dates
Jim Neal 1913-1973
Lee no dates ( this is Robert E. Lee Cornelius)
Maggie 1883-1981 ( she married Bluford in 1904; maiden name Robinson)
Martha A. 1871-1932 ( this is Martha Alice Blackwell Emerson Cornelius who
married Harvey Jefferson Cornelius)

Mary G. 1910-1967
R.J. 1908-1933
Tom B. (1902-1982) Tom Bluford is father of Cathy Fowler.

WFT gives the following:
Harvey Jefferson Cornelius born 1815 in AL ( she has it backwards; it's J.
H.)

Wife: Rosie Williams ( this is what they called her; my great aunt knew her)
Born Oct 1790 ( way off) died 1900 Bowie County, TX ; no death records
available.

Children: AaronClay Cornelius born Febrary 28, 1842 and died January 31,
1910 in Bowie Co, TX.

Jane Cornelius

Adolph Cornelius (probably Randolph which is what my great aunt said)

Mahalie Cornelius

Allen Cornelius

Bell Cornelius (my line)

The WFT has the next generation of Aaron with only this information.
Cornelius was not a line she was into; her other lines go way back to New
England and are infinitely detailed.

Aaron Clay Cornelius born February 28,1842 died January 31,1910.
Wife: Sarah Nobles died in Springfield LA. The only child listed is Rosa
Arminta Cornelius, which is, of course, wrong.

I have to pull out my WFT records to get all the data from this sheet, I
can't lay my hands on the hard copy right now, and it's getting on towards
supper time. I will send the rest.

One last note: the descendant of Aaron Cornelius, son of Zion, said that
Aaron married more than once she believes. She didn't however have the other
spouses' names.

married William Redford Preston on May 15, 1887 and had the following
children: Cyrus Preston, Janie Elizabeth Preston, Maggie Lee Preston, and
Willie Preston. All were born in Redwater, Bowie County , TX.

FYI: The lady who did this is WFT 5866 in WFT Vol. I. Since she has Harvey
Jefferson as father of Aaron, she was stopped cold in her research. She did
have Rosie Williams correct and all the names of the Jefferson
Harvey-Rosamond Williams marriage correct so I know we are talking the same
family.

Hope this unscrambles the mess. Barb

You are one of the Saints (I know we all are, but your star shines a little
brighter in my galaxy of researchers tonight!).

We are looking a two different Noble/Nobels families here. The Whaley 6 site
says all of Russell Nobles children were born in AL and their father is born
in SC, definitely. Their URL is www.members.aol.com.BRWhaley/Nobles.htm.I
think I copied this correctly. On my favorites it is listed as Whaley6,
however. Their data posted doesn't list the birthplace of the mother, but I
have e-mailed Billy asking him for the complete printout. Still, after what
you found, I think we are safe to say it is a different family. I'm still
awaiting Joan's get back on the Aaron, son of Zion, junk she has laying
around.

Well, now thoughts are scare just now. This need to percolate before we post
to the Cornelius-L for help or suggestions. Methinks, however, that what
Cathy Fowler told me is true. These folks moved into Bowie and TX through
Miller County , Arkansas. There is a Nobles family query posted on the Bowie
Co Query Board, other than mine. It's an old lead, but I may need to look
again. I don't have a burial for Jesse Cornelius or any children listed. He
must have gone by initials or a middle name. Must look at that.

All of this sends me right back to where did Jefferson H. and Rosamond hide
out in 1860? They bought lots of stuff from dad Aaron's estate sale ,
along with brother John, and that's it. The settlement of the estate is
signed by Jefferson's agent for him, a Williams ( in law obviously) because
he was not present for distribution of assets. Before the 1855 Census of
Blount , the family left the county. Unless A.J. in the 1860 is the son;
won't hurt to look.
Brother John went to MS, but Vikki Highfield has been down that road before
and posted all the local Cornelius families to me, not MS. My guess he was
in the wilds of Arkasas in uncharted territory between TX and Ark. Maybe the
territorial records of Arkansas hold the key. I must go back to TX and
Arkansas this summer, I guess. This is as good an excuse as any. Meanwhile,
let me look for Jesse now that you have found him. as Velva says, " THANKS
CHRISTOPHER TANNER." Let's look on page 319 Blount County 1870, for
starters.

My nephew and his buddy are arriving on their cross country trek from
California Thursday night to eat home cooked, sleep free, and do the art
museums in Baltimore and DC befor heading to the Big Apple to search for
fame and fortune as artists. Need I say he also has college degree in art
and is good at graphics, but has prepared for realitiy by taking bartending
class (ugh) so he can work at night and paint all day. He should become
clueful in about 6 months, but he must learn first hand like all of us, I
guess. Since my cupboard is bare of meat, and he is a major carnivore, I
must shop tomorrow and slay a fatted calf for him. Off line till weekend.
