Cook, Ephriam (b. 10 AUG 1814, d. 26 OCT 1879)
Note: Subj: Cook monument/cemetery
Date: 1/19/01 7:42:08 PM Eastern Standard Time
From: bnuss@@hiwaay.net (John Nuss)
To: CGTanner@@aol.com (Chris Tanner)

Chris,

In looking back at some old notes, I note that when my contact in Henry County went to the Cook Family cemetery, she and others with her very carefully read the monument. They were suprised to find that it DID NOT agree with what I had sent them. It said, ETHRIAM G. Cook, not Ephriam P. Cook as I had indicated. They looked at it again and again and used a magnifying glass and all agreed the monument read the same way. SO, was the monument carved wrong, were these in error, or are some of our records in error. Are you aware of a census reading that gives the middle initial?

Also, from the family historian that died quite a few years ago came a statement that Grandma Tanner was not born in Henry County. When I mentioned that to some others, I was quickly corrected and not being able to locate where I had found them recorded twice in the 1850 census, once inHenry and once in Cherokee County, I backed down. Well, last night in going through a notebook I haven't looked at in years, I found the census reading. I did not go a good job of recording it, so I'm going to have to go back and re-read it again, but at least I know where to look now. It says Ephriam P. Cook, Cherokee 516, 15th District, state of Georgia (failed to record the date) or those in household with him--but below that is Ephriam Cook, Henry County, GA--If memory serves me right, they were recorded in one county in June and in another in October. On another sheet, I show George, age 58 in Cherokee in 1850, recorded Aug 6th. This would not be the brother to Ephriam, could it be an uncle? It is George 58, b. SC; M. 56, b. SC; AA 27 F, b. SC; J. 20 F b. SC; N 18, F, b.SC; J. M.16 M b. Ga; F. M. 14 M. b. GA; A, 11, F, b. GA; ME, 7, F, b. GA; NS 22, M, b. SC; I. D., 25, M., b SC.

I'm not sure why I recorded this George unless I thought there was a connection.

The first time I get an opportunity, I'll check on the above census reading to see what I find on Ephriam and if I made an error in recording the county. At any rate, this is the paper I have been hunting for for quite some time--I was not able to find Ephriam listed twice in the 1850 index of the census.

I just wanted to say hi cousin! I just took a look at your gedcom g1003 and I wondered if you had the other info on the children of Elisha Greene and Elizabeth Wilkerson/Wilkinson? Also the children that Elisha had by second wife, Elizabeth Driggers? Also the information on the other children of Willis Smith and Sarah Greene? Maybe you have it and chose not to include it in this gedcom. If not, I can send you some more information. I am a descendant of Elisha's son, Daniel E. Greene and Dicy Tyre.

I notice that you had some Waldrons in your gedcom. I have a lot of Waldron info but don't know those particular Waldrons. In fact Elisha's parents are said to be Jacob Greene from Ireland and Hannah Waldron (parents unknown). Let me hear from you!! Linda Howard Fisher in TX

Thanks so much for your e-mail. So sorry for the delay in getting back to you, just never seem to get caught up. I have very little information on this Elisha Greene. Only what was given to me by a cousin about 10years ago. I would greatly appreciate any information you could share with me. I do not even have any proof that Sarah Green who married Willy Smith is their daughter. So any information would help. I will be glad to share what I have as far as the descendants of Sarah Green Smith, if you are interested. Thanks again for your help and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi
I got some info on Sally Greene's family from Ceta Rodgers Armitage in 1988. I'm not sure which references "prove" that Sally was a daughter of Elisha Greene. I also have a copy of the "Greene" book, "Door of Memory" by Lawrence Hill Maddock in 1974 based on the memories of children of Margaret Green Hill (a daughter of Elisha and his second wife). Ceta gives a lot of references and the Door of Memory also gives Sally as marrying Willis Smith. I will get you some information as soon as I can but right now I am taking care of my daughter and her two small children. My daughter had a back injury 7 years ago and now it is getting really bad. She will probably need surgery. Don't give up on me but I am really busy. Linda
