Julia Garrison was my grandmother. She was first married to Joseph Harpe who died very young, then married Fred Brown.
My father was Benjamin Harpe, who was the only child of Joseph and Julia. Joseph died 2 or 3 months before my father was born.
I am curious as to how Julia fits into your family tree. I never knew much about my grandmother's relatives, other than my aunts & uncles who were my dad's half sister and brothers, and their children. Since we lived in Texas and they in Florida, I never saw too much of them. I only just recently discovered some of my Harpe relatives in Florida.. This internet is a wonderful thing!
I would appreciate anything you can tell me about the Platts.
Thank you so much.

So nice to hear from you so quickly! Now, where to start!
First of all, Julia lived all the time that I knew her, in Plant City. As far as I know, her brother and her sisters lived in that same area. I believe that Fanny moved to California in her later years , to live with her only child, a daughter. She was married to a Jack Turner. The others I don't know much about. Fanny used to come to visit with us, here in Texas. However, I still have cousins in the Plant City, Tampa area. I will see if I can get their phone numbers, and send them to you. I don't know what they may know about the others.
Joseph Harpe died suddenly. He was a very young man. I think Julia said it was "walking" pneumonia. I suppose it could have been anything. And yes, Tom Harpe and Oceanna (Tauchton) were Joe's parents. One of the Harpe's in Melrose, Florida, sent me a couple of snapshots of them. I was so glad to receive them.
My dad moved to Texas when he was a very young boy, probably only 14 or 15 years old. He worked for the Western Union delivering telegrams, and learned to telegraph. He worked for the Associated Press for a while, down around Harlingen, or someplace in that area. Then he moved to Dallas, where he met my mother. In the years following, he was a telegraph operator for Magnolia and Humble oil companies, and for several railroads. In fact, he and my mother moved to Florida in the late 60's, and he worked for the Seaboard Coastline RR, where he retired, and then returned to Texas.
And, by the way, where do you live? I assume you may be in Florida.
Do you by any chance have any of this information on "Family Tree Maker"? If so, maybe I could get you to send me a disc with all of the Platt family info on it.
I have only just this last year gotten in to this genealogy. Our daughter gave us the software. She said I needed to put as much down in writing as I could. And she is so right! I was never particularly interested in my ancestors, and I never asked any questions about them. I am so sorry now that I didn't ask a lot of questions before it was too late. My mother died about 10 yrs ago, and my dad died about 5 yrs ago. We started with my husbands' family, and then this summer, I decided I would try to find my dad's family. I sent emails and "slow" mail to every Harpe I could find in the Florida telephone directories. And I was just floored when I had a reply, from a Harpe in Gainesville, who put me in touch with someone else. They are supposed to send me some more info but I have not as yet received it. Then I found Julia on Ancestry.com, and decided today to contact you. I can't believe my good fortune!
As far as where J B Garrison and Mary lived, my dad told me that the little town where they lived, no longer exists. I believe he said that it was a logging town. James B. Garrison evidently was an "oiler" on the old railroad steam engine. He said the engine had "Smokey Joe" painted on the side. Well, one of my cousins found an old picture of a man standing beside an engine with "Smutty Joe" painted on the side. She sent it to me to see if my Dad could identify the man. Well, Daddy said it was a picture of Julia's dad. And just this week, one of my cousins sent me a copy of that picture. They had it restored, but of course, it is in the old brown tones.
But back to where they lived, I believe that Joe Harpe and Julia lived in Tampa, but I believe that Julia must have gone back to her parent's home to await my Dad's birth. And on my Dad's passport, he said he was born in Pasco. Now, I don't know if that means the town was named Pasco, or if he was just referring to Pasco county.
Well, I will close for now, but I am so happy to hear from you. I will be in touch with you later.
And if you would be interested in a copy of that photo of J B Garrison, let me know.

Christopher:
Went to San Antonio to buy groceries today. When I returned I found your email. I have downloaded the file, but have not as yet had time to look at it. Will send you what I have as soon as I figure out how to do it!
I do not remember my great grandfather. Mother and Dad said they took me to see him once, but I don't remember it. I don't believe my dad saw him more than just a few times, either. I am so sorry now that I didn't insist on going to see them. I know that dad would have been sure to take me, if I had shown any real interest.
I don't have any pictures of Mary, but I will check my cousins in Florida, and see if they possibly have any. Chances are that if they do, they don't know who it is. Since she died before any of us were born, none of us knew her. I will check to see if they know who she may have lived with.
If the names of their children are the same as on the census, then you have the same that I do. I also took mine from the census. As far as Willis, I have the feeling that he did not live too long. He was 2 yrs old on the census I found. I will check with my cousins on that, also. I believe one of Julia's children was named Willis as a middle name.
The last time i was in Florida (about 8 - 10 years ago), one of my cousins took me to the cemetery in Plant City. Joseph and Julia, and Julia's 2nd husband are all buried there. And unless I am mistaken, some of the other family members are there also. I took pictures but they did not turn out well enough to read the headstones. I am beginning to get excited about checking all this out, and feel that I may need to make a trip back there in the near future.
Sometime could you make a copy of Mary's death certificate and send it to me?. I will be glad to pay for the postage, copy, etc.
I need to go and sit down, and digest some of this. Now, I have a whole new family of people to get straight in my mind. It's funny, but after we began on my husband's family, it reached the point where I felt like I actually knew them.
Thank you so much for the information. It really means a lot to me.
Betty
