J. C. Maddox
Former State Rep. and attorney J.C. Maddox, 76, of Calhoun, passed
away Jan. 29 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness. He began
his law practice as an associate with Ronald F. Chance in 1961 and
became a partner in the Chance & Maddox Firm. He was a graduate
of Porterdale High School in 1949, West Georgia College in 1956, the
University of Georgia in 1957 and John Marshall University in 1961.
He also served in the United States Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954.
Mr. Maddox was active in local politics, having served as Georgia
State Representative. He also was elected to the Gordon County Board
of Commissioners and served as chairman. He also served as judge of
Juvenile Court and Superior Court judge. He was a member of Belmont
Baptist Church and was Sunday teacher of the Scrap Iron Bible Class.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was an Eagle Scout.
