Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Miss Sarah Maggie Blackburn
Dear Friend The weather is vary disagreeable it has been Snowing all day and is Still Snowing this evening there is about four inches of snow on the ground now I wish I was back there we would take a Sleighride to ur misfortune when we come down here we found Edmund T Blackburn had not withstood the Examination he will probably ge at home though before these ffew poorly scribed lines reach you and he can tell you more about it than I can. Well Maggie I presume you thought hard of the way I left Shellsburg but I hope you know my reasons I kept up on account of my Mother I never had anything in this world to go as hard weith me and I hope you will excuse me if I did not treat you as I Should of done I could not espress to you my feelings since I left home I can harly write to knight I took my fry our to my Self after I got in the cars I feel as if though my pleasures are to an end I Seen Ladies last Knight in Huntington that I wanted to talk to me but I could not talk to them I remembered wll what you and I last talked about which this I believe you Said you would not stay with any young man if I would not stay with any young ladies and I told you I would not and I intend keeping my word and I trust you will do the same Pleas tell me when you write whether or not you went up to John Hussls Schoolhouse to meeting that knight after we left or not and what for a time you had, I am well as preasant hoping these few lines may find you enjoying the best of health Well this is the first letter I have written Since I left if I am Seperated from you in body I left my heart with you I must now bring my scribbling to a close hoping you will excuse all imperfections Sucha as bad writing and spelling and write Soon as Convenient I Remain Very Affectionatly you Friend and True Lover Moses.
