Moses Garretson

Camp Convalescent, Virginia
June 25th 1864

Miss Sarah Maggie Blackburn

Dear Friend
I resume the pleasure of writing you a few lines once more though I have
no letter to answer as I have not got any from you for sometime but I
think there is a letter at the company for me if I was there but if
there is I will get them in a few days. I have not been with the Company
for the past five days as my health is not very good and I was sent to
this place called Camp Convalescent. I do not like to stay here if I
was able to go away for a sick man receives very poor treatment in my
estimation but I hope to soon Recover and get back to my Company &
Regiment Since I last wrote to you we have taken part in a series of
Battles we started for Petersburg on the 15th and fought Chiefly all day
arriving the enemy about threee or four miles from the place we first
found them in the morning on the 16th we again attacked them but did not
drive them So very far on the 17th we fought but little on the 18th we
charged on them twice driving them out of two lines of Rifle Pits being
the heaviest fire musketry we ever were under the 19th there was but
little musketry only by times but very heavy cannonading in all making
five days in succession that we were fighting I will give you a list of
our killed and wounded in our company killed George H. Summers wounded
