Camp inf the front
July 6th 1864

Miss Sarah Maggie Blackburn

Dear Friend
As I returned to my Regt and found quite a lot of letter for me three
being from you these were all read and Perused with pleasure I shall
first Reply to yours one dated 16th one the 22nd & one the 26th and I
will answer all in one first I would say that I was sorry to hear of
your Grandmothers death Nevertheless She is no doubt better off than
those that are left to mourn her loss, again I was glad to hear of you
having such good times over at the love feast but one thing I dont See
why you and [--------] not get beans I Reckon they were of the right kind
though probably you were somewhat choicy I would like to of been there
but in place of going to [-------] and meetings we are Daily
Marching or fighting Some place Well I have not been for the past ten
days owing to my health being somewhat Delicate but I am now back to my
luck in the Coming Battles with the rest of my Comrades My health is
Somewhat delicate but I am still on the mend slowly I hope if these few
lines ever reach you they may find you enjoying the Best of health and
enjoying your self well

I wrote to you while I was in the Convalescent Camp and
Since then there was but two casualties in our Regt Wilson Davis was
slightly wounded in arm & Henry Hiller in the leg neither being anything
but flesh woulnds most likely there will be Some pretty hard fighting
here soon again I heard this morning since coming to my Regt this
morning that the 184th Regt Pa Vols was all captured the other day what
was not wounded or killed Reports Say they were Surrounded I hope it may
not be true but I fear it is we are not gaining much ground of late nor
we are not losing any I Believe I have given you all the news I know. I
have not heard anything if Sergt Solomon H. Miller yet your Cousin
Thomas G. Hoover and Brother George are both well & with the right You
will please excuse my poor writing & Spelling & write Soon I Remain
Very Affectionately your Friend
