Ventura Rodríguez' 1780 fountain at the Plaza de la Cibeles features the great mother goddess Cybele in a carriage drawn by lions. The Madrid football club's supporters like to jump into the fountain to celebrate victories, but in 1994 they broke off one of Cybele's arms resulting in police protection for the fountain after all winning games.
