   General Notes:

ABIGAIL STEELE PRESTWICH
Written by herself in 1963 for the book "Memoirs of Mahonri Moriancumer Steele Jr."

I met my husband Clarence Prestwich, while living on my father's farm. He was the son of George and Julianna Marrilla Draper Prestwich of Lehi,Utah. Shortly after our marriage, Clarence was called into the U.S.Army during World War I. During that time, I lived with my parents where our first child was born. After his discharge from the Army,we made our home at Lincoln, Idaho where Clarence worked for the Utah Idaho Sugar Company. After two years we moved to Delta, Utah where we ran farms for the Sugar Company. About 1942 Clarence quit farming and ran the Delta end of the Salt Lake-Delta Freight Line. At the age of 55, on the 9th of August 1947, after a three-week illness, Clarence died.

All eleven children have graduated from high school, and eight have graduated from college. One is a registered nurse, Lola; she served in the Army Nurses during World War II. Seven are or have been public school teachers, teaching in the fields of language, elementary grades, industrial arts, physical education and agriculture. Four of the children, Erwin, Nelda, Clarence and Zolet have served on full-time missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Calvin, he eldest son, is serving as Bishop of the Ruth Nevada Ward; and all he children are active and serving in some position in the Church. Calvin, Lyn and Lola have served in the Armed Forces--Calvin and Lola during World War II and Lyn during the Korean Conflict. At the present time, the family is living in the states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Florida, with one son, Clarence, teaching at the Church School at Tonga in the Pacific Islands. There are thirty grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Of the grandchildren, Darrell Tureson is serving on a mission and James Tureson and William Otis Fears are in the Air Force for our country.
